Hi! My name is Elaine. It's taken me a while to get here. Food has been my best friend my whole life. I was put on my first diet at 5 years old (I remember vividly being taught how to use a scale, learning how to swallow little yellow vitamins, and eating yogurt). About 3 years ago, I decided to look into bariatric surgery - after avidly vowing for years that it would never happen. I had finally come to the realization that I couldn't do it on my own. However, my insurance wasn't ready to cover me yet (I needed 6 months recorded dieting and Weight Watchers didn't count), and I got engaged. Dealing with recovering from surgery and a wedding at the same time just didn't seem like a good idea.

I finally decided to look into surgery again this past April. Everything went really smoothly and before I knew it I had a surgery date. I had surgery July 15th, 2009. It went well, and I started out with high hopes. The day of the surgery I had no qualms whatsoever. I didn't have any regrets or second thoughts when it was over either.

Now I'm just struggling through recovery and trying to figure out how to lose weight ('cause right now it's not coming off).
