Saturday Night Poop Patrol lol

Jan 27, 2018

I hate to be so graphic, but who among us has not tried to "drop the kids off at the pool", "push the boat out", or other ephemism for trying to poop before a weigh-in. All the protein and cheese seems to mean a big back up. So I'd love other people's suggestions for fiber help. I tried psyllium husks too weeks ago and it worked too quickly and made me sick :-(

I think we have to be very careful with fiber solutions, because especially with RNY, our systems work differently, are faster, and tend to escalate effects of stuff. I try eating bran and fruits with fiber. So far pineapple is a good one, but any suggestions are welcome lol.

This week, after I was able to finally release some of that back up ahemmm...I dropped down to 278..woohoo...the lowest weight I've been since 2013. My husband is at 231 down from 238. We are doing well at tracking, not so well at exercise...

This week I tried two of the Nectar protein mixes, and so far I like the Grapefruit and the Caribbean Cooler...I mix them in 12 ounzes of cold filtered water, then shake with a wisk thing inside my shaker cup. It mixes them well...they remind me of a slurpee after the ice melts, but not as sweet.

Still trying to get inspiration to ride my stationary bike. I will hopefully soon. I have been pretty stressed with life stuff like my dog dying, and trying to get a new job...so it is hard to motivate myself sometimes to do other stuff.

Trying to follow the motto on my signature...do or do not, there is no try....I'm doing the change of lifestyle needed to get to my goal and be healthy...no more trying to lose weight ;-)

What's working for me...this week:-)

Jan 18, 2018

Well, I'm in my third week of re-dedication to lifestyle change. Hubby is still on-board, and here are our current strategies that are working:

  • Weigh-in once a week together to provide accountability. It's hard for me to let hubby see THE NUMBER, but he's pretty loving about it :-)

  • Tracking all food in Lose It app on our phones

  • Some kind of movement 3 x a week for 20-30 min (this is the one I have slacked on)

  • Self-hypnosis for chocolate and sugar. I listen to each one once, daily, and I have noticed an impact. Walked through Target and Walmart Valentine candy hell, CVS candy hell and didn't even feel a tug to buy anything, which I usually would do.

  • Trying to drink more protein supplements. I so far like the Pure Protein powder, chocolate, got on Amazon for $9.91, and got the Nectar variety pack, with some trepidation, I remember it from long ago...but tried the Grapefruit one today and it was good...mix the whole packet with 12 oz cold water in a shaker. Was able to use that for lunch.

I'm still struggling with candy/chocolate in the house. The hypnosis is working in as much as I'm not bingeing, and it's not calling to me from the pantry making me feel psycho, but I have thise deep seated resentment of not being able to have it at all, which makes me tack it onto my dinner for the last 100 calories of the day. Hubby has been able to stay away from it and is losing more than me...so I know it is the difference.

So far I've lost 4lbs, and with my goal being 2lbs a week...that's okay :-)

Feel free to share what's working for you if you want to!

Thanks,
Mary K.

Creative Exercise

Jan 07, 2018

I hate exercise for the sake of exercise. I prefer to build it into my day and life. For instance, shortly after surgery I moved to an apartment where I purposely chose to live on the third floor, because I knew between going to work and walking my dog a few times a day, I would naturally get a good chunk of exercise. I also like to count gardening, yardwork, and housecleaning. I also hate exercising alone and am socially inept, so finding a walking buddy is hard.

I am going to buy a house hopefully in the next year. My husband hates diy and yardwork, so I am tempted to get a townhouse with no yard...but then I won't have the built in yard for gardening and exercise. My friends say don't get a townhouse because the stairs are too hard as we get older...but part of me thinks, well it is built in body work. I have no idea what to choose.

I just know I do not enjoy going to a gym, walking a track, getting up early to exercise alone. Sigh. I loved playing sports as a teen and kid, but I was only a little overweight then, and it didn't hurt as much.

I know I have to figure it out. I know I have to "build it in" to my life, so I do not see it as a chore. Have any if you successfully done this over a long period of time?

There is no Try

Jan 04, 2018

You Star Wars fans know the old Yoda adage...Do or Do Not, there is no Try. I am reading Connie Stapleton's book,

Eat It Up by Connie Stapleton

thanks to a recommendation from Gina here on these boards. The book says you have to just do the stuff required and trying is dying. I keep catching myself saying..."Im going to try this or that", when really that is just a hedge...a get out of jail fat card. So now I say, Im going to do tracking, and I am going to do biking each day, and Im going to give up sugary foods...no more trying.

Cliche of Starting Over at New Years

Dec 30, 2017

Well, I know it truly is a cliche to restart goals this time of year, but why not. There are still a ton of cookies and chocolate laying around the house. I would like to tip them into the trash, but my husband wont allow it. Which brings me to a tough question...how do we do this when those around us are not on the same track? My husband has weight to lose as well, but he resists  if I suggest getting rid of unhealthy snacks or not buying them. He has oppositional behaviors, as do I, so it is very hard for us to do things that require us to not be allowed to have something.

This is all psychological, I know, but it is hard to fight hard wired oppositional feelings.

Have any of you been able to self-talk your way out of oppositional thinking?

Thanks,

Mary K.
