220 lbs... Down 30 Lbs... Almost 3 weeks out

Aug 28, 2006

Ok... I'm signing on a few days early to let you know that we are getting ready for Ernesto.... one of the few better reasons for living in SW Fla!!! Not!! Take care everyone who's in the path of Ernesto!!

225 lbs... Down 25 lbs... 2 weeks out

Aug 23, 2006

Official doctor scale weight... glad to know my scale is in sync with his. My checkup went very well. Of course my weight loss so far is mostly water and some muscle so it's off to the gym time to kick it up a notch and I am ready to do it!!
Also I am on the soft diet now....Yeh!!!!!!!!!! Chilean Sea Bass here I come!!!!!!! My first meal by myself after the doctor visit was at Red Lobster and I had their steam carrots and steam scallops... lunch proportion and it still made out for three meals for me... boy things have changed!!

230 Lbs...WOW!...Down 20 lbs...1 week out

Aug 16, 2006

W H A T.... I couldn't believe it last night when I got home from Ft Lauderdale I hopped on my scale for the first time since the day before surgery and I had already dropped 20 lbs!!! Holy crapanolly!!! Wasn't expecting that for sure!! Also my basal rate is now down to 1.5 units per hour and my average BS is 80 mlg to 120 mlg. What a miracle!!!!! When I do have my lows.... for me OJ or Apple Juice that is watered down works for me.... have to admit I was scared to try it for the first time but I guess I am lucky. By the way the reason why I put all these details about my diabetes is so that diabetics looking into having this surgery can learn from what I've gone through. Like they say " You can't keep what you have unless your are willing to give it away."

Post-op - Marriott the closest thing to home!

Aug 15, 2006

Tom and I have been staying at the Marriott just around the corner from the hospital in case any complications occurred since we lived 2 hours away from the hospital it was highly recommended by my doctor. I'm glad I did.

I also wanted to give a big shout out (thank you) to Tom's Mom for coming down from Ohio to watch our daughter and our dog Buckeye back at home in Naples. There was ALOT of stress in house before the surgery and you were a true trooper for helping us out.... Thanks Mom!!! I also wanted to thank my mom for all her help and compassion and for coming over with me to see me thru this. My husband Tom was a huge help in the hospital.... I felt as if our relationship (while in the hospital) took us back to when I was having Stephanie. You were very helpful and compassionate.... and I appreciated that very much!!

My biggest kudos goes out to my Uncle Bill for coming down from Kentucky to "really be there for my Mom" and for that alone I appreciated it because you really did lighten up the event when I wasn't at my best. You had our room at the hospital in stitches... you know the ones that no one minds getting. And as for myself I had no idea you would be SO UNBELIEVABLE in the bed side manner. All I had to do was make a face and/or a single moan and you knew my next impersonation of Linda Blair was on its way and you were there on the fly to pull me up so that I could do.... well you know... we will spare the readers of the graphics!! Bill you were an immense blessing to Mom and I.... thanks so much for coming down.

I now have one story to tell regarding my first few days out of the hospital while I was still in the hotel. .... I wasn't feeling good at all one night after eating something that didn't agree with me and It wasn't the dumping syndrome but I still felt pretty bad so I called my one WLS acquaintances Osmoni on my cell phone and he recommended that I make myself a warm cup of tea and that the warmness of the tea will settle my stomach and help dissolve what ever might be "stuck" in the pouch OOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRR it will make whatever is bothering me come up.... well while Osmoni is telling me all this I'm preparing my tea real fast cause I was not doing well at all and when it was finally prepared I told Osmoni "ok I'm ready to take my first sip.... I hope this works" and while Osmoni continued chatting with me.... trying to assure me that everything was going to be alright by my second sip...... BOOM BAM Here comes up what the heck was bugging me... now remember.... I don't know Osmoni too well at all and I've only chatted with him on the phone..... I'm telling ya ... it was kind of an awkward/funny moment while Osmoni is chatting away ... I am puking away in the hotel sink and I didn't think he was hearing me since the reception might not have been too good on our phones and because he didn't miss a beat .... He was still just chatting away. When I was finally done and was able to talk...... I said to Osmoni... ok "Dr." Osmoni... you are a miracle worker.... the tea worked!!! He said oh did it settle your stomach that fast? I said oh yeh it did by remedy plan B though!!! Ok... so I realize that this story is gross/silly for others to read but this is my blog and there are certain moments that I am so certain that I will forget and the funny ones to me.... I'm just trying to retain!!

Post-op - Life after (It seemed like) Death!!!

Aug 12, 2006

MUCH BETTER!!!!!!! No nausea and I'm able to keep things down....AND....I got to go home today...yeh!!! Ya know one of these days I will have the nerve to walk out of the hospital once the doctor says it's ok because I swear it's like waiting for all of eternity waiting for the wheelchair dude!!! I wanted to give a shout out to my new friends that I met through having this surgery..... Dee & Bob....so glad you became my roommate Dee.... we didn't have much luck with our first roommates between my drug addict in detox and your poor lady roommate that had Alzheimer’s and would scream out loud from her pain she was in. So between the screamer and the druggie... we were lucky we got placed into a new room together and I was so blessed because you have a wonderful family... Bob was a big help when my helpers were out. Yon (hopefully I spelled your name correctly) I hope you are having success in your recovery. I'll miss "racing" you down the halls and checking in on you to only find you sleeping like a baby.... sorry guess we wore you out!! LOL.
Bob and Roberta.... what a blessing of finding such wonderful people to recover from our procedure with. Bob you are doing so well and Roberta thanks for all your support and great WLS meal ideas.... they have come in handy!! Hopefully we can get together on my next Dr Visit on September 7th. Well take care all and good luck with your adventure to being healthy!!!

Post-op - My impersonation of Linda Blair

Aug 11, 2006

Operation Day...250 lbs - Pre-op Weight Size 22/24 3X

Aug 10, 2006

The operation was a big success!! First day after surgery was nothing but bliss and sightings of little yellow submarines!! No complaints here!! My blood sugars stayed at around 150 to 180 all day and my preop basal rate on my pump was 3.5 units per hour but now it is down to 2 units per hour without a need to bolus any extra obviously!!

Pre-op - Night before the big event!!

Aug 09, 2006

Night Before surgery.... and look she's smiling!!! Not inside though... nervous as can be!! I am so glad my red chin is gone!!!

Pre-op - Change of Plans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jul 08, 2006

Amazing how time flies and how things change. Cleveland Clinic here in Naples got bought out by another hospital group (HMA) and in the new hospital the Cleveland clinic's endocrinologist left the Naples area and they currently didn't have an endo on staff. Sooooooooo I have switched over to US Bariatrics Center w/ Dr Perez in Ft. Lauderdale and I am scheduled for Aug 11th to have surgery. Let the nerves set in!!!! For the next few weeks I am scheduled for their preop tests and I am also going to San Fran at the end of July with my family. Wish me luck and keep me in your prayers if you will!!

For now .... Does anybody remember b4 their surgery eating the cupboards out of your kitchen and eating and drinking like it was 1999 because you knew soon it was going to end. Well my friends that is where I am at...... Well bring on the surgery and bring on the meetings.... looks like I will need them both highly!!! More news at eleven!!
