You are so right that the drs need to know you have sleep apnea. I just didnt think to tell the Er dr when I had emergency gall bladder surgery. I had problems after my gall bladder surgery in oct. They couldnt get me to keep breathing. Yet they did put me into a regular room with an Oxygen mask. They would not give me anything strong for pain cuz of the breathing trouble. I made sure I took my CPAP with me for my lap band surgery. I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing the story with us. Lisa

I am so sorry for the trajic death of your dear friend Ginger. Sounds like she had not a very good surgeon.. Prio to my surgery date I had to go through sleep apnea studies and be on C-PAP for a minimum of 1 month prior to surgery. I had lap RXNY at the University of Chicago done on 10/17/03. I was on a Heparin drip for the 3 days that I was in the hospital and my surgeon put me on Lovinox injections that I had to give myself 2x daily for 14 days following the surgery. This prevents blood clots! You would think there would be a certain criteria the hospitals and surgeons would have to follow to go about insuring the best postive outcome for bypass surgery patients. I am so grateful that I was fortunate to have a great surgical team and great hospital to take care of me.. Linda from Indiana

Thank you Susan for sharing with us Ginger's story. Because of it, I requested on my own to see a sleep specialist. I scored pretty high on on their quiz and am going to be scheduled for a sleep study. You have possibly saved my life and maybe many more. Thank you again.

Thank you so much for printing Gingers story. So much that you have written about her, (having a small breathing tube in throat, having a hard time waking up in recovery room, ect...) sound like me. I am trying to get this surgery approved now. I will be SURE that my surgeon knows about my prev ENT surgery from this yr, and the complications I had waking up in recovery room post-op. In writing her story, I very well think that you will be instrumental in saving MY LIFE when I go under. Thank you for myself, and ALL the MANY Others that will read about her experience and know how SERIOUS UNTREATED SLEEP APNEA is. You've done a great service to your friend and many others that will read Gingers story. Sincerely Becky Mulligan

Susan~First of all my condolences of the loss of your wonderful friend. Second thank you so much for taking the time to sit down and write her story. It just breaks my heart to know that such a wonderful woman could have been with us today to share her weight loss had it not been for the stupidity and neglegence of her doctor and staff. But just know that she will always been looking down on everyone of us because she now flies with her own set of wings!

Thank you for sharing your story about Ginger. She will never be forgotten. Now that I have wiped all my tears away enough to type.....i just want to say that it sure was a shame that no sleep study test was done. My deepest sympathy to all of you. MAry

I am scheduled to have surgery on July 18, and even though I am well versed in all the ins and outs of this procedure and recovery, I still find that reading other people's stories helps me to learn the things I can't learn from generally circulated information. Thank you for sharing Ginger's story. She was a truly beautiful woman. It is sad that incompetence led to her untimely death. Having this knowledge helps us to know what we should be asking before surgery. I have my pre-op appointment tommorow and although I no longer suffer from sleep apnea, you have made me aware of some things that I need to ask again to be reassured. Thank you and Thanks Ginger!
