The Journey Continues

Dec 30, 2014

Every day continues to be a struggle just trying to maintain my weight.  It seems the slightest bit of carbohydrates send my weight rocketing.  I have some good news though.  My insurance company has authorized to pay for part of my breast reduction and arm lift.  I will also be having abdominoplasty and torsoplasty done.  In total there will be 3 surgeries.  My first surgery, the abdominoplasty, will be on February 9th if all the medical clearances go through.  The second surgery, torsoplasty and breast reduction, will be done about a month later.  The third stage, arm lift, will be done about a month after the 2nd surgery.  Not bad.  Right now I am feeling a little scared and really not looking forward to being in a lot of pain.  Why do we chose to go through pain?  It seems so counter-intuitive towards our survival.  This new adventure will be a challenge and also a new beginning towards better health.

4 Year Surgiversary

Sep 22, 2014

Who would have thought that four years could have gone by so quicky.  My weight is still a daily battle, but I am not in a state of deep despair and depression like before surgery.  I have some control over my eating habits.  Over the last 3 months I have been able to lose 20 pounds of regained weight.  I still have 21 more pounds to go to get to my lowest weight.  It will happen.  Today is day 1 on bariatric liquid diet restart.  Hopefully I will have the determination to stick it out until the weight comes off.

My long term goals are to be able to have 360 lower body lift, torsoplasty and breast augmentation performed so that I can feel comfortable in my own skin.  I need to have some abdominal hernias repaired as well.  The things we go through to have children.  I'm hoping I can get this done within the next year.

Last November I had to have emergency exploratory surgery which reveals lots of messintary hernias, build-up of scar tissue and an intestinal blockage in part of the "y" of my RNY.  Who knew that this could happen 3 years after surgery!  Thankfully I was on vacation when it had happened and had an amazing surgeon operate on me, on his day OFF.  Thank you, Lord!

So, the journey for good health and a long life continues.  Good Luck and Abundant Blessings.

Back to Reality

Dec 14, 2012

After a year and a half of taking my RNY for granted I have started gaining weight back.  That has got to be one of the scariest events in a post-op's life.  As suggested by my nutritionist I have gone back onto the pre-op liquid diet to rev up my metabolism and decrease my caloric intake.  I weighed in a week ago and was up to 185 pounds.  After two days on the pre-op liquid diet I weighed in again and have lost 5.5 pounds.  Hopefully this will give me the motivation to keep going.  I really look forward to the day when I am in the normal BMI range and most of my obesity symptoms go away.  One day at a time.

Apr 27, 2010

Okay......So I've been waiting to ask for medical clearance until all my tests have gotten back.  I'm thinking about a June date so that's getting pretty close and my Sleep Lab test isn't until May 20th.  I called and talked to the lady that does the authorization for surgery.  Apparently I do not need to wait to get the clearance until the sleep test has gotten back because it is not a co-morbidity.

Just called and left a message for my new PCP to see if she will go ahead and fax that medical clearance.  The clinic said that I would probably get authorized within 48 hours.  Also learned about some new paperwork I need to get to them.  One doctor's note per year from the last 5 years.  Called and they said they would have that faxed down to Arizona by Friday.

Let's say that they get the authorization by next Tuesday....the earliest surgery date I could get is June 15th.  I'm actually getting psyched now!!!  Lets hope all goes as planned.   :)

Apr 13, 2010

Today has been busy and very productive.  I called around town to find out who might be the best psychiatrist and psychologist for me to see post-op.  I have yet to find on that is contracted with my insurance company.

Hoping that I can switch my Primary Care Physician to a Family Practice doctor that I have seen in the past.  He now has a closed practice and I'm just waiting for the okay to see him.  I need to get that medical clearance from someone.  The only time I've seen doctors at our Banner clinic is when I'm sick.  We'll see how this goes!

My wonderful hubby scheduled the remaining tests for me yesterday!!!  I have yet to have an abdominal ultrasound, upper GI w/ small bowel follow-through, dopler study of the lower extremeties, and then my sleep study.  Woohoo!  He was able to schedule the 3 ultrasounds for one morning.  How awesome is that? Hoping that everything will be finished by about May 7th.

Started working on the travel reimbursement from our trip last week to Phoenix, AZ.  Just need a copier.  So tomorrow I need to make copies, call Banner to find psychologists and psychiatrists, and wait.....
