In the hospital again.

Feb 24, 2007

I have been so sick that I was put back into the hospital I spent three days in in there. I have had allot of problems since surgery. I have been scoped twice and had my stricture stretched both times. Then I had a bout with nausea. I could not eat or drink anything in 4 days. I went to emergency and I was so dehydrated that I was given 7 litters of fluid just to hydrate me. I had a cat scan done and found that I had a pocket of fluid pressing up against my pouch causing the nausea. So I went back to surgery to remove the pocket of fluid. My surgen was not on call so I was cared for by another doctor who told me that I was lucky that I went to emergency. I was so sick. I am home now and still very weak. But I am now able to eat more than just a teaspoon of food. I still don't eat much but it is the most I have ever been able to eat since surgery.

Update on my stricture

Feb 13, 2007

Well the first procedure did not work. I had the first procedure last Wednesday and today I had to have it done again. I was told that I possibly had to go thru this a third time but they found an ulcer so the gave me medicine to cure the ulcer and then I probably will have to be stretched again. This is the pits but I guess there is no other way to fix me. It is still hard to eat but drinking water has gotten better. My water has to be Ice cold to numb the path going down or I can’t drink it. Thak God for suger free popsicles.

I had a stricture

Feb 08, 2007

I had the procedure yesterday to fix my stricture although it was a simple procedure I feel like I have been beaten to death. My body is sore my joints ache and my throat is so sore I can hardly talk. The doctor says this will pass in a few days. I have been able to drink water again it just has to be very cold to freeze my throat. I had some beans and they went down with no pain just the pain of my sore throat.  I was told that I may have to have this procedure again in a couple of months not looking forward to that.

16 days post op

Feb 01, 2007

Just thought I would update since my surgery. I have lost 31 lbs woohoo. It is still hard to eat not that it is painful but it is uncomfortable. I eat very little but I do get my water in. If I had it my way I would live off of water and sugar free popsicles. I still get tired in the afternoon I take about 3 naps a day. Overall I am doing great.

1 Week postop appointment

Jan 24, 2007

Dr Higa told me that I was a model patient. I lost 25lbs I was given the go ahead to start mushy foods. I had beans for lunch, they went down with no problems, and then I had mashed potatoes for dinner again no problem. I will try tuna tomorrow. Over all I had a rough start to my new journey but it seems to be getting easier now. Thanks to GOD I got thru my first week.

Home from the hospital

Jan 18, 2007

Photo of Alice Urrutia I was released from the hospital about 8pm last night it was great that I only had to stay in the hospital one day. I am walking and feel like I could dance (but I won't). I slept in my waterbed on my side propped with Pillows and slept all night. I have minimal pain, my last pain meds were day of surgery around 4 in the morning. I am sore and have a little bruising I will try to post pics on my profile of my belly. Over all I had a great experience and I have lost 7 lbs in two Days My pouch does not like Jello but it does like water and broth. Thank you to all who helped me to stay positive thru this whole process I truly believe that I am recovering well because I kept a positive attitude.

Pre-op testing Done

Jan 13, 2007

I had all my pre-op testing done on thursday January 11th I first met with my doctor and he told me that everything was a go for surgery he gave me papers to take to the hospital where I pre-registered and then they sent me around the corner to have a chest x-ray, just two pictures and I was done. Then I was off to the lab for blood work three vials they were skinny but long one of the three was half the size of the other two. Then it was off to another room for an EKG. Modern technology has come along way it only took 3 minutes and I was done. Very easy appointment.
