UPDATE January 30th 2009

Jan 30, 2009

I am happy to report at my 6 month post-op doctors appointment a grand total of 133 pounds lost since April 16, 2008. To recap...50 pounds lost before surgery and 86 pounds lost since surgery. I feel great and am walking 3X a week for 30 minutes each time and 1X a week a 3 mile walk with a great group of friends. (Thanks , Ladies) I still use my recumbant exercise bike also. I am comfortably wearing a size 22 jeans with no lycra and no elastic. A far cry from the 6X mens stretch pants/sweats I was wearing not so long ago. More important than sizes, inches , and pounds are the numbers like...blood pressure 124 over 80 and blood sugars that are more in the manageable range. I continue to sing the praises of the team that helped me achieve so many miracles...Weight Wise , Rita, Amy, Cheryl, the other Amy, Jessica, Dr. K , and Dr. Toby Broussard...a surgeon who absolutely gets the big picture and loves what he does for others. I am enjoying the new life I have been given. I wring every drop of life out of every day!!!! How many people can say that???

3 months out from Surgery

Oct 26, 2008

I had a great idea this week! I asked a friend at work to be my walking buddy. She said yes! I have been walking at my target heart range 20-30 minutes every day. Our plan is to walk together at the mall 5 days a week. She keeps me accountable . I go back to the Doc on Nov. 6th. I am hoping to have lost 6 more pounds for an even 100 pounds lost. We'll see....

Oct.16 Update

Big news!!!!!!!
I have lost another 9 and half pounds. Drum roll please....I have lost 94.5 pounds since April 16th !!!!!!!!!! Life is so different for me now. I can't wait to find out what new adventures will come my way. Size wise I am swimming in clothes I used to only dream of wearing. I am confident physically. What can be better than that?!!!

Oct. 2 Support group meeting UPDATE

Oct 02, 2008

Support group meeting at Weight Wise. I always try to weigh on their official scales when I'm there for a support group meeting. As of Oct.2 I have lost a total of 85 pounds!!!!!!.  I haven't talked much about my life in the past 5 years or so. But here goes... I found some pictures of me from that time frame. I avoided the scale (there was no scale---even in the Doctors office that would go high enough) and I avoided cameras, So I will never really know for sure how high my highest weight was. But let's just say I certainly was very near 500 pounds. That was way before I spent  a year getting healthier after a bout with profound anemia. On my own, I lost more than 50 pounds. So even though I cannot document my grand total ---my family can verify that I have lost about way more than what has been documented since April 2008. And the pictures of me are painful proof enough...

Sept. 24th---2 months out from surgery

Sep 24, 2008

Tomorrow it will be 2 months since my surgery. I have had so many WOW moments. I know that my life is just beginning to change. But these first few weeks have been so mind blowing for me. Remember, I have never been average size. I am excited about the changes I see in my body. But perhaps the greatest changes have come in the little idle moments when I envision my future. Yes, I have a future that is brighter than any of my past. I have lost 84+ pounds. I wore a size 24 pants...not bad for someone who used to wear a 6X or 44W. I have pix to prove it. I'll be posting soon. Oh yeah, I don't mind having my pic taken now.

Sept. 11th Patriot Day

Sep 11, 2008

I saw my Doc today. He was pleased in every way!!!  I have now lost a total of 82 pounds...32 since surgery. I  feel great. I get compliments every day. My clothes are too big...again. I feel deeply successful...My blood pressure is 120 over 80. My blood sugars are stable and coming down. My committment and resolve are firm. Thanks to all my friends and family. Thanks to my surgeon Dr. Toby Broussard and every health care professional at Weight Wise/Foundation Bariatric Hospital in Edmond, OK. How blessed and grateful I am to be living in America...so full of opportunities and hard working people that enjoy helping others. God Bless America!!

Sept. 4th update

Sep 04, 2008

I went to support group and couldn't resist the opportunity to weigh myself. I have lost another 6 pounds! Grand total before and after surgery is 78 pounds lost forever!!!!!
Very interesting discussion at support group. Lots of Qand A about pre-op struggles. I remember those times. I must say in the most heartfelt and merciful way...everyone struggles...but I think ultimately it passes. Sometimes you have to just power through. There are no easy shortcuts . There are only tools. When you have HOPE you have all the power to change. There is ALWAYS hope. So many times the mindset affects the body.
I have WOW moments every day. Clothes get too loose to wear in public. I can stand on my feet for more than an hour at a time now. I have energy to spare. I have to force myself to shut down and rest at night because I feel like doing extra things. I wake up excited and happy early in the morning. This is not hype. It is real. WOW!!!!!!!!!!
