I am 34 years old and have been overweight most of my life. I managed to have two major weight losses, one being 99 pds. I was able to keep it off for two years and the weight came back and brought some friends.
It seems each time I lose weight, I gain back more and more weight. Most recently, I have had pain in my knees, back and feet - something that wasn't an issue before. I realized now it is only going to get worse. This summer, I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, so it is getting worse! Luckily, my cholesterol, blood pressure, sugar levels are normal, but most likely will get worse if I dont have the surgery.
I have been thinking of weight loss surgery for about a year now and after doing a lot of research on the internet, books and local support group meetings, I decided to have the surgery - RNY. I have a three year old daughter, who is my life. I absolutely adore my little girl. She is one of the reasons that I waited and was reluctant to have the surgery - the fear of something happening to me. But, again, after much research, I decided to have the surgery FOR HER - to be more healthy and active!
I chose my surgeon, Sheila Partridge, after reading a lot about her and her expertise, meeting her at the info meeting at NWH and having my consult with her on 8/27/08. I have much confidence in her.
I am very nervous and very excited at the same time to begin my journey!
