Hi Everyone,

I am a 50 year old music teacher with Type 2 Diabetes.  September 2012, I decided to have Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass surgery at the Duke Weight Loss Center.  Dr. Dana Portenier was my surgeon.  On the day of my surgery, I weighed 249 lbs., to date, I weigh 188 lbs.

I don't regret having the surgery, but it's been an emotional rollercoaster for me and continues to be.  At this point, being three years out from having the surgery, I have fallen back into some of the same habits I had before surgery.

I KNOW what I'm supposed to do and WHAT I'm SUPPOSED to eat, but I just can't do it.  It's a mental and emotional thing.  I lost my Mom in 2010, then our only "child", our beagle-who was almost 12 years old, Rusty in 2014.  Since both of those losses, I have fallen into what I feel is either a depressive state or something like bipolar tendencies.  I have acknowledged this as of yesterday with my family physician, who was very compassionate. Together, we laid out a hopeful new pathway for me to begin getting help.

This includes going back to see the nutritionist at the Duke Weight Loss Center along with some other goals like continued exercise, support groups, etc.

At this point, I'm not happy, I'm sad.  So, that currently describes me.  If nothing else, just say a little prayer for me for continued improvement.  This is NOT my personality and I feel like I have a lot to give, but right now, it's just very hard and I'm spiraling back a bit because of it.

It's a new day!
