1 year out....

May 18, 2009

Well it's my 1 year anniversary and I'm finally really glad that I had the surgery done.  To date I've lost 139 lbs and have approx. 36 more lbs to my goal weight.  My weight loss had reduced to approx. 6 lbs per month.  I've been testing low on most of my vitamin levels but  due to a significant change in my financial situation I honestly can't afford to purchase the vitamins that I need.  For now I've switched to prenatal vitamins and am trying to supplement with other vitamins I can purchase locally.  I finally had to get rid of all my old clothing because it was so big.  I started at a size 30/32 and am now wearing a size 16.  I'm struggling with how bad my body looks right now but am not to the point of considering any surgical skin removal yet.  I'm waiting till my wieght loss stabilizes for a while.  If my financial situation hadn't changed as it did I would be taking the correct vitamins and be alble to afford some clothing that fits, but for now I'm just greatful that overall I'm healthy and feeling so much better.

Update

Jan 27, 2009

It's now been 9 months since my surgery.  I was kept on the tpn's until July 5, 08.  While on the tpn's I lost little to no weight.  They stabilized my weight until my body was able to fight off infection and heal correctly.  So on July 6th I had my first preeed food.  If last year you would have asked me If I'd have done it all over again and have to go throught the complications I experienced I would have definitely said "NO".  Now that I am 9 months post-op I've had a change of heart.  I would do it all over again however I would have asked more questions to my doctor like in the event of complications how do you treat them.  I would have also asked if during my pre-op visits if I could store some of my own blood in case it is needed.  I last wieghed on January 5, 2009.  Woohoo...I'm 101 lbs down.  I do feel better than ever.   Really battling with the protein shakes so I'm experienceing the hair loss.  Also some enexpected life changes have occured and has made it difficult to pay for the vitiamins that I now need.  It also dashed my hopes of joining a gym.  I've had to become more creative with my home work-outs.  Anyway, I am greatful for the surgery as I see a new me emerging with confidence to really live life and not just exist in it.
