June 12, 2006: First post-op visit, Dr. Gluck says I am doing fine and my incisions are healing nicely. Still have considerable pain on my left side but it is improving every day. I look forward to my new life and losing the back and knee pain.

June 21, 2006: Two week check-up yesterday. Everything is going pretty well. I don't have much pain anymore, just when I move wrong or strain the wrong way. I am down 25 lbs. since the beginning. I am noticing it already in the way my clothes fit. I am having a bit of trouble with diarrhea. The Dr. ordered a stool sample to check for c.diff., but lo and behold, no diarrhea since!! Scared it out of me, maybe?? LOL

I am walking about a mile every day, but still get kinda weak and tired sometimes. But all in all, feeling pretty good.

Six week check up with Dr. Gluck on Tues. Doing well, iron a little bit low. I got started on iron supplements. I have now lost 40+ lbs. Feeling pretty good, walking and/or biking almost every day. No more diarrhea, just constipation now!! Most all the time, I get all my protein in every day. I usually only have one protein shake per day, getting the rest of it in with foods. Occasionally, I have difficulty getting something stuck resulting in pain, nausea, and have vomitted a couple of times. All in all, I feel pretty good.

Went to a 2 month 'behavioral check-up', basically a reminder to be good to your pouch and follow the rules. I feel I am doing well, now have lost 51 lbs. Eating is going much better, about the only thing I have lots of trouble with is fish. Feeling very good now.

Three month check-up today. Having some trouble with reflux again. Iron level still a little low, so they increased my iron to 2 pills instead of one. My cholesterol is down to 174 from 247 and my blood pressure was 112/73. Weight loss is now 66 lbs.
Still have trouble with some foods, they say I have a very small opening and that is taking longer for my pouch to 'mature'. Feeling well otherwise.

Just a note, I am now down 75 lbs.  Feeling really good, I can't believe I don't have hardly any back pain any more.  I still continue to have difficulty with a few foods, mainly meats.  Pork is the worst, even if it is cooked very tender.

I am getting lots of compliments from alot of people now, even though I don't see it as much when I look in the mirror.  Guess I've got to get used to the new 'transforming' me!!

Wow!!  Six months out and had my check-up with Dr. Gluck today.  I have lost an amazing 94 lbs. and feel terrific.  My labs were absolutely perfect and I feel so healthy.  Got major kudos at the Dr.'s office from all the staff and was even asked if I would participate in a 'fashion show' at some point in the future.  I just laughed and said 'FASHION SHOW!!!  ME???'   But I did agree so that will be a totally new experience for me, no doubt!!  I am so happy for this opportunity, to be healthy again, to feel good, to do so many things than I couldn't do before.  I am now pain free and have more energy than I know what to do with at times!!!

March 20, 2007

Well, I am now nine months out and down 117 lbs.  I have had my gall bladder out in January.  That wasn't too bad but I have had a problem with too much bile causing diarrhea since.  It is slowly getting better.  I am also being treated for an ulcer at this time and it is getting lots better.

I went shopping yesterday and definitely no longer need the plus size department.  My sizes have went from a 28-30W to a misses 16-18.  Can't tell you what a happy feeling this is, I couldn't get the grin off my face when I was in the dressing room!!

I now weigh less than I did in college, haven't been able to be in misses sizes for many years.  What a feeling!!

My hair has also quit falling out and I am growing lots of little short ones, especially in the front.

I feel so much different and would do the RNY surgery again in a heartbeat.  I just wish I had considered it years earlier.

Well, here I am, 15 months from my surgery.  I have now lost 145 lbs.   I can't believe that is me when I look in the mirror.

I was diagnosed with an ulcer about a month and a half ago.  One of my staples had poked through my pouch and an ulcer formed around it.  My Dr. removed the staple during an EGD.  I am on Carafate and Prevacid to help the ulcer heal.  It is getting better but not gone yet.

I now wear a size 12-14 and am 8 lbs. to my goal of 180.  I am 5'10" tall so this is a good weight for me.  I feel so good about not being in that plus size dept. any more.  What a thrill to try on things that are this much smaller!!

I couldn't be any happier with the outcome of my surgery.  Getting the RNY has changed me completely for the better.
