Tuesday's Coming Quickly...

Jan 14, 2011

Today was my last day at work prior to surgery. I had been hoping to keep things under wraps (at least for the most part) about my surgery, but the two week period with "FMLA" splattered all over my name in the schedule did little to prevent interest from my co-workers. Oh, and working at your PCPs office and being disallowed from accessing your own medical record - and thus having to ask co-workers to check on things like pre-op lab results, nutritionist appt dates, etc - doesn't make for a stealthy absense.

Not that I'm embarassed about having the surgery, however I wasn't quite ready for the way the news of it spread like wildfire around the office. I've had people I barely know come up and give me their two cents on my decision to have the surgery. Oh, well. This is the price of working with women, I suppose. We're gossipy birds, and the juicy stuff gets around!

Anyway, with my surgery Tuesday, my nerves are really starting to get to me. Being in the medical profession myself, I have a very good idea of what's going to happen to my body both during and after surgery, but it still hasn't alleviated my (mostly irrational) fears.

Before I get off on a tanget about my nervousness, I'll focus on the good news - I'll have time after the surgery to polish up my NaNoWriMo novel!
