A scare for a moment....

May 06, 2008

Hey guys...I know it's been awhile since I have filled u in on what's been going on...I know, I missed u tooo (LOL) Since I went back to work, my schedule is hectic. I don't have that free time like I use to but here I am to fill you in on what's been goin on with me.

Well, last week was a HORRIBLE week for me. I wasn't able to keep anything down and rarely felt hungry.
The simplest thing like water wouldn't even settle with me. I didn't know what was going on with me. I never called my doctor because I said since I have a visit on May 9 I will just explain to him about what was going on. Come to find out, that during my menstruation time, this happens. Since Saturday, I have been able to eat not as much as I should, but something and have maintained it staying down. Not sure that anyone else is experience any problems during their period time but just though I should share this with you anyway.  The only good thing is is that I lost alot of weight in that 1 week...

FIRST FILL

Mar 13, 2008

Hey guys!!! I went for my first fill yesterday and it was amazing.  All the dx and nurses that were there were just so nice and it was good to finally meet Sam. She is awesome and has such a nice personality and makes you feel so much at ease. First Sam rubbed some cream on me that I guess it suppose to numb me while they stick the needle in. Well, it didn't work , but it wasn't painful at all just a little uncomfortable. I was able to see my cute lil port and my stomach and even the band. I tell you this whole experience is amazing to me. I learned that I have a AVP band which can hold up to 10cc and it's a fairly new band. The doctors said that they have gotten good results from it so far so I hope it works well for me too. Sam put in 2 cc but later found out that it was too much because it took the batram (whoever you spell it) 1 minute to go down which meant that my band was too tight. So they went in a took a little saline out. When I took the batram again, it only took 30 seconds to go down and I was given the OK that everything was good.  If I have any vomiting, trouble eating or I don't feel any restriction, then I have to call them and come back in for another adjustment. It was a farely quick appt too...I was there at 2 and out by 2:45.  I was on liquids for 24 hours and now I am on pureed foods for 4-5 days.  Hopefully the pounds should begin to melt off... I HOPE....

14lbs lost HOORAY!!!

Feb 19, 2008

Hey Everyone!!! I am glad to say I am down 14lbs as of last night. That might now seem like alot but for me, its the BOMB!!! I notice that I lost weight in my feet, undernearth my underarms and the top part of my stomach. I also started the gym last week and met with a personal trainer on Monday to get a workout plan together based on my medical needs. Right now I am doing a cardio-workout mostly the treadmill, bike and elliptical. I have not started any abdominal excercises of course and won't be rushing that too much (LOL) because I hate it...I have graduated to regular foods and I find myself not eating as much on certain days and eating more than usual on others but it's all healthy foods for the most part. My first fill appt was pushed back from March 3 to March 12 so I am anxious to see how my weight loss is going to be after that..I promise to keep you posted as to how everything turns out... Toodles

I Dipped A lil'

Jan 31, 2008

OK, I'm guilty...I couldn't take it anymore..Tomorrow is my 10 day mark that I can have soft foods and this morning I made 2 scrambled eggs. They didn't bother me but I needed something besides soups and broths and protein shakes and water. I read where some people were on soft foods 1 week post-op so I didn't think it would hurt.  I did notice that if I drink or eat a little too fast that I fill it building up in my throat...It doesn't hurt but does feel uncomfortable...Has this happen to anyone else?  Tomorrow I go for my post=op appt and I have weighed myself all week because I want to be surprised tomorrow. Plus I went out last weekend and bought a electronic scale and had to take it back because it didn't work. So now I am just using my old fashion scale. Wish me luck tomorrow!!!!

I'm back in full effect!!!

Jan 24, 2008

Hey everyone, I'm back...What an experience. Besides the nausea the first day,  I feel OK..Walking is the key. I have come to the conclusion that I cannot stay still for too long that I have to keep moving to release the gas. I feel a lil soreness by where the port is but everything else is good. I haven't felt hungry at all. Just thirsty. Sitting here is beginning to bother me so I will fill you guys in later on what's going on...TOODLES

Tomorrow is the change of my life

Jan 21, 2008

Hey guys!!! Well tomorrow is the big day. I have to be at the hospital at 9:15am. I am not as nervous as I was a week ago. Now I am just ready for the change of my life. I didn't need to fast or go on any type of liquid diet or anything but I ate fairly light throughout the day. I had my last big meal before surgery last Saturday at the Cheesecake Factory. Herb-crusted Salmon with mashed potatoes and aspargus with lemon sauce. It is the abosolute BOMB!!!Usually I have left overs but not this time. I tore it up and took the cheesecake home and nibbled on it for about 2 days. OK, so back to the big day (LOL).. I AM READY. Please keep me in your prayersand any questions you may want to ask me, feel free to hit me!!! Lata

ONE WEEK TO GO

Jan 15, 2008

Well....I am slowly approaching my day...I cannot wait. Of course I am still nervous but even more excited. I saw my friend yesterday who just had surgery and she looked FANTASTIC. So I even more motivated than I've ever been and not scared. She said that she had a lil bit of pain where the port is but other than that she felt great. She was up walking around and drinking mint tea and water. I'm so happy for her.It also feels great to have someone do go along this journey with. I felt myself coming down with the sniffles and I was told that I couldn't have anything with zinc. I was told to get Emergen-C which helps break a cold and with 2 doses it worked good.

Pre-Op Testing

Jan 13, 2008

OMG!!!  I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW LONG MY PRE-OP APPT WAS ON FRIDAY. I ARRIVED AT THE HOSPITAL AND 8:30 AND LEFT AT 5. THANK GOODNESS I WAS ABLE TO GET MY PARKING TIX VALIDATED CAUSE I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW MUCH I WOULD OF HAD TO PAY FOR PARKING OTHERWISE. I HAD A NUTRITION CLASS AT 9am WHICH WAS VERY INFORMATIVE. WHO WOULD HAVE KNOW THAT IS SOMETHING SAYS DECAF DOESN'T MEAN IT DOESN'T CONTAIN CAFFEINE. IT JUST CONTAINS A VERY SMALL AMOUNT. NEVER KNEW THAT AT ALL . NOW MY APPT WAS AT 12:30 BUT ONCE THE CLASS WAS OVER AT 11, I SIGNED IT AT THAT TIME AND LUCKLILY I DIDN'T WAIT UNTIL 12:30 TO SIGN IN BECAUSE I MAY STILL BE THERE WAITING (lol). THEY ARE A VERY BUSY HOSPITAL AND I SEE WHY THEY ARE RATED ONE OF THE BEST BUT YOU HAVE TO HAVE SOME PATIENCE BELIEVE ME. BUT IT WAS ALLLLLL GOOD. DURING THE PRE-OP TESTING, THEY WENT OVER THE INFORMATION THAT WAS GIVEN AT THE INITIAL CONSULT AS WELL AS MAKING SURE THEY HAD ALL OF YOUR TESTING. THEY ALSO TAKE YOUR PRESSURE AND ASK IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY ON ANY MEDICATION. ARE YOU CURRENTLY SICK? WHICH COULD PROLONG YOUR SURGERY DATE BECAUSE YOU CAN'T BE SICK AND UNDERGO SURGERY. THEN AFTER I TALKED WITH THE NURSE, I WENT OVER TO SCHEDULE MY POST-OP APPT WHICH WAS SCHEDULED FOR 2/8 SUPPOSE TO BE 10 DAYS AFTER  SURGERY. THEN I WAS GIVEN A SLIP TO HAVE BLOOD WORK DOWNSTAIRS. SO NOW ALL I HAVE TO DO IS WAITING UNTIL THE BIG DAY WHICH IS SLOWLY APPROACHING (LOL)...

Final Pre-Surgery Testing

Jan 07, 2008

On January 11, I have my pre-surgery testing. I have to get blood work and meet with the nutritionist. Even though I wasn't told by my dx to lose a certain amount of weight before surgery, a goal that I set for myself was to lose 10lbs. Well, I will weigh myself on Thurs to see how I did. I still have another week and half to go if I haven't reached that goal, I want stress myself. The closer the 22nd comes, the more I am nervous. I know that with the lap band, my weight loss will be slower and that I have to work EXTRA hard at losing weight and I am ready for the challenge. I just want everything to go smoothly because i have been looking forward to this for over 2 years and I am just ready to begin this year focusing on my health and enjoying life just a little bit more.
