Hey, Kathy, best wishes for an uneventful surgery! Dr. Frantzides did my surgery on April 1 this year. You couldn't be in better hands--the man knows what he's doing. I had no complications or problems, and am doing well. I was in the hospital from my surgery on Tuesday afternoon until I went home on Thursday afternoon. I was ready to go home then, I felt pretty good, and was able to take care of myself. My advice is to follow his, and Karen, the dietitian's, advice as you go. Call either one if you have any questions or problems--they'll help you. You can also send me a message to my surgery page (the email address on my profile isn't available to me any more) and I'll do whatever I can to help you through. This won't be as hard as you might be thinking. The hardest part for me was simply planning out my food, liquids and vitamins every day. The discomfort was minimal (walking DOES help--I took frequent field trips to other rooms in my house just to be moving around). Don't worry too much that you can't get all your liquids and protein in those first few weeks. Do get enough to drink, it's very important to get rid of the byproducts of the fat breakdown, avoid dehydration, and to keep your bowels moving. Don't worry too much about protein until week 4 or so, when you can eat food and maybe tolerate a protein drink or two. Get plenty of rest, and RELAX (both now and after surgery!). You'll do great. Let me know if you have any questions, or just want some input from someone with the same surgeon/hospital (I thought Rush was great--top notch nuring and aide staff; they took excellent care of me). Take deep breaths--your new life is going to be great!
