Final Show
Aug 05, 2007
Today was the final show of the musical I've been in this summer. Last night's and today's audiences were great, and I had a ball doing the play, so I feel sort of sad that the end is finally here. (I also feel quite relieved!) Since Memorial Day, I've devoted more than 42 3-hour blocks of time for the play, so it's really been a big commitment. But I enjoyed it so much. One of my best friends was in from Washington, DC, for last night's show (and for the weekend's 35th reunion of our high school class), and today my brother and sister-in-law, my niece, and my nephew and his wife were there. Jaosn and I stayed afterwards to help strike the set, which amazingly took only 2 hours. Tim (the direct and my actin teaher) has already asked me to audition for the college's fall production!
I haven't done much exercising the last week, due to getting back to work and having several early morning appointments (and late nights because of rehearsals and performances). This week shoud be more normal since Jason and I will both be back at school and will need to have earlier bedtimes and wake-up times.
I'm scheduled for a fill appointment a week from tomorrow, so I want to have a good week and drop another pound or two. If I can drop below 194.5, I may not need a fill yet--even though I've had this level for 4 months. My last check-up was on July 9 with a weight of 199.0.

Another .5 gone
Jul 25, 2007
I was at 194.5 this morning, and I've been thinking what that means to me. My high weight was 245, so reaching 195 means I've lost 50 from that high. Now that I've dropped below 195 (albeit just half a pound!), I'm working on the second 50 pounds. I don't want to count down that (only 49.5 pounds to go--jeesh!!), but it still does something to me mentally to think that I'm in that second block of 50. Fifty pounds is a lot of weight, and I'm very pleased with myself for losing it.
Today is 49 weeks since my surgery, and I've lost 45.5 pounds since that day (and 50.5 pounds from my high). I'm pretty happy with how things have gone, and I look forward to seeing where I am in another year!

Still going.....

I was at 195.0 yesterday morning. What a great feeling it was to reach that 50-pound-lost mark!
Now I'm looking forward to hitting the 50-pound-lost-since-surgery mark (190) or the 1-pound-per-week-lost by my one year bandiversary on August 16 (188).
I've had a good week in terms of eating sweets and doing my exercise. I've taken a snack for intermission during the play each night, and most nights that has satisfied me. I've also been able to sleep in most mornings and then spend time doing my workout.
The play is going great. Today's matinee was the 7th show of 13, so we've passed the halfway mark. We have 2 more weekends with 3 shows each. Today we had our first major glitch. One of the actors had gone to the bathroom when the stage manager called "five minutes"and didn't hear the "places" call, so he didn't realize we were starting the second act. He was supposed to be on stage and deliver a monologue shortly after the act began. Since he wasn't there, we just had to skip his part and move on. He came onstage about 8 minutes after the act opened. He was mad about it, blaming the stage manager for not giving us the full five minutes, but I think he was wrong. Someone had to go find him and he was still in the bathroom, so he must have lost track of the time. If he had gotten out of the bathroom and gone backstage in a more timely manner, he still could have gotten onstage before his part. He just didn't pay attention. That was a valuable lesson for all of us: the show must go on, and it will go on without any of us.

New Low Weight This Morning
Jul 14, 2007
Woo-hoo!!! I was down to 196.5 this morning! Another 1.5 pounds and I'll be at the 50-pound-loss mark.
The last couple of days are almost a blur because of the play's opening. We opened on July 12 to an unbelievably rambunctious crowd. They applauded and laughed at EVERYTHING, even at many things that weren't that funny! I was really caught off-guard by the response to my character, Rose, who is an ugly, bitter, bigoted teacher. It was energizing to have the audience response, but it caught me by surprise.
Last night's audience wasn't as energetic, but they really loved the play. The comments during intermission and after the show were very positive. The director's vision for the play is so different from the original vision, and it has paid off. The Broadway production of Working was a series of monologues by the different characters. It was set against a plain backdrop that could accomodate any of the characters. Our production is set in a bar (aptly named Studs', after Studs Terkel, from whose book Working the characters are drawn).
Tonight's show should be fun because I have a group of 12-15 family members and friends coming. We're meeting for a picnic beforehand and then they're staying for the show. Jason saw it Thursday, but my parents and sister are coming tonight.

Busy, busy, busy

This has been a crazy week--play practice every night (and opening night tomorrow!) and my checkup at the bariatric center on Monday. I'm officially under 200 pounds on their scales, so I can honestly say I'm in ONEderland.
I weighed 199.0 on the office scale, and because I was down 3 pounds from the previous checkup--and I'm at 3.8 cc's--we agreed not to get another fill. I've had this amount since March 12, and it's serving me well--when I use the tool correctly. I've had a good run this week of avoiding sweets and making good food choices. For a few days, I seemed to "need" something sweet when I got in from play practice at 11:00 each night. But this week I've monitored that well and haven't eaten after intermission. A small protein/fiber bar has satisfied me, and I've avoided the cookies and chips that the other actors were nibbling on.
I'm tired, but I feel good and very much in control.

Working: The Musical
Jul 04, 2007
The play opens next Thursday night! We have only 6 more rehearsals, and the last one of those will be in front of an audience of sorts--a group of folks from several local retirement communities and nursing homes.
The last 2 nights I finally got all of my lines. I had been having to call for lines, and that was SO frustrating. It really feels good to be able to get through all of the lines from memory. I still have problems with one part of one of the songs, but the other 4 songs and my solo are in good shape.
Monday night we'll start with dress/tech rehearsals and that will be challenging. I know it'll feel different to have the stage lights up and body microphones on when we sing. I haven't been nervous yet, and I hope that will continue. This is my stage debut, and I really want it to go well!

Cruise Details
Jun 29, 2007
Finally, I have a few minutes to record some memories of our 3-day, 4-night cruise out of Jacksonville, FL, to the Bahamas.
We left from the Lexington airport on Thursday, June 21, and flew to Charlotte, NC. About 20 minutes into that flight, the pilot came on and said that he had gotten word that the plane had a problem with its front wheel control. The landing was going to be an emergency landing, and we were instructed to be prepared to get in brace position. It was an anxious time as we all wondered how the landing would go, but, thankfully, everything went well and we landed without incident. Since the pilot couldn't control the front wheel, we couldn't taxi to the gate, so we had to wait for a couple of buses to come and get us and take us to a gate. We had only an hour between our flights, and we were worried that we might miss our connection to Jacksonville, but we made it with a few minutes to spare.
In Jacksonville, we easily found the shuttle bus to the Carnival Cruise terminal . There we went through security and got our ID card for the cruise. We'd never been on a ship before, so we found our room, unpacked quickly, and started investigating, checking out the different floors, dining areas, lounges, and pools. Our ship was the Celebration, and it was beautiful!
We stood on the forward top deck and watched as we pulled out of port that evening. It was stormy, but it was fascinating to watch as we pulled into open sea and left land behind us.
On Friday we spent the afternoon in Freeport, and on Saturday we were in Nassau. Because we had been to Freeport before, we just wanted to do a short tour there to have an opportunity to walk on the beach and visit the straw market. In Nassau, we took an excursion that took us to Blackbeard's Beach. A boat ferried us out to the island where we swam and sunned for about 2 hours. Afterwards, we went back to the ship and got cleaned up; then we walked through the shopping area of downtown Nassau for a few hours.
Sunday was spent at sea, and it was such a relaxing day! We found a cushioned window seat where we spent the afternoon reading. The ocean was beautiful, and we both enjoyed the sense of freedom and lack of responsibility.
Monday, we left the ship at 9:00, got to the Jacksonville airport at 9:30, and waited until 7:30 that evening for our flight to Charlotte. It was storming there, so our connecting flight to Lexington was delayed for an hour. We finally got to Lexington around 11:30 and got home shortly after midnight.
Because I wanted more control over my food choices, we opted for the buffets rather than the dining room for most of our meals. Jason was partial to the 24-hour pizza bar, and I frequented the 24-hour frozen nonfat yogurt bar. There was always an assortment of fruits and sald items, in addition to a variety of fish and chicken dishes. There were also hot and cold sandwiches available for lunch each day.
My week has been hectic since we got home early Tuesday morning, but the vacation hasn't worn off yet. It was great to have that time of no responsibilty and no clock. We're already taking about another cruise for another anniversary off in the future. It's a wonderful way to relax and unwind.

Onederland!!!

I made it!!! I weighed 199 this morning!
It's been a long wait, but I finally crossed that line this morning. I'm down 46 pounds from my all-time high of 245. Now the next goal is to hit the 50-pound-loss mark at 195.

Great Cruise
Jun 26, 2007
We got back LATE last night from our 3-day, 4-night cruise to the Bahamas, and it was GREAT. It was also great to be home!
I'll record some details about the cruise when I have more time, but I want to make a quick note about my pre- and post-cruise weights. Before we left Thursday morning, I weighed 200.5, and this morning, I weighed 201.0. I gained only half a pound! Of course, I was pretty careful about my eating on the cruise. I ate plenty, and I ate dessert regularly, but I really didn't overdo it. (I also PB'd during breakfast Saturday and Sunday and during lunch Saturday.)
More details later.

Summer Plans
Jun 15, 2007
Jason and I both teach, so we're off all summer, and it's great! He gets bored, but I sure don't. We're cleaning house this summer--going through closets, sorting through clothes (and getting rid of things I've under-grown!). I had had 2 boxes blocking the door to a closet in the spare bedroom--now the exercise room--and I went through them and got rid of most of the what-nots, candles, linens, and other assorted stuff that was in them. It's funny to think of how important that stuff was 7 years ago when I boxed it up; now it doesn't mean anything. In fact, I'm glad it's gone. Now that I can get in the closet, I've discovered that there's even more stuff to get rid of inside of it. It feels good to be cleaning things out and paring down our belongings.
Jason's big project so far this summer has been ripping all of our CDs onto an external hard drive and then boxing up all of the CDs and putting them away. They took up SO much space in the family room, and it's nice to have that space open and clean. His next project is to do the visual presentation for the Woodford Humane Society's Freedom Fest next month. This is the fourth year he's done it for them, and he does a better job each year. This year he's adding video and flash animation. It'll really be a tremendous addition to the evening.
I'm also in a play this summer, so I have rehearsals 3 or 4 evenings a week. The play opens 4 weeks from now and runs for 4 weekends. About the time it ends, school will be ready to start back. If I think about it too much, I feel as though the summer is already over. Just today I checked the college website to find out when the first meeting dates are in August and found out that I have to be back officially on August 2. Yikes!!!
I'd better enjoy the summer while I have it. Tomorrow is Mother's 80th birthday. And our cruise to the Bahamas is next week. The following week is the 4th of July. Time is flying.
