Day 39

Aug 25, 2008

Well, today was the first day of classes, so I'm officially back at work. And what a day it was! Students were wandering the halls trying to add classes, and they latched onto anyone who made eye contact with them. So I ended up staying several hours later than I planned to. Everything I did was important and needed to be done, but I sure was tired when I finally got out of there this afternoon. Whew!

Day 38

Aug 24, 2008

I had my "challenge" in mind long before I read the challenge for today (which was to do something nice for yourself). Now I get credit for it! I was SO tired when we got up this morning, and I knew that I needed a nice, long nap this afternoon. When we got home from church, I took care of a few little jobs around the house, and then down I went for a several-hour-long nap. It was wonderful. I woke up refreshed and ready to start my new school year. (Jason did laundry all afternoon while I slept, so the day was especially nice!)

Day 37

Aug 23, 2008

I've worked TOO many hours today trying to get my 3 online courses ready to roll out on Monday morning. My time was well spent though because I just now opened all of them for students to begin to poke around and see what the semester will look like. My bad is stiff and my spirit is tired, but I'm thankful I had the stamina and brainpower to get to this point.

Water -- yes
Move -- yes, I walked almost 4 miles
Train -- yes, lifted weights and did floor exercises
Journal -- yes
Track -- yes
Challenge -- yes, I challenged myself to not snack today, something that is almost impossible for me when I'm stressed. But I persevered!

Day 36

Aug 22, 2008

I feel like I ran all day--meeting after meeting and family obligation after family obligation. But I got a lot done and feel as if I made a positive difference. That's what makes it a successful day in my book.

Jason's car had a flat tire yesterday, so I drove him to and from work yesterday and today. I was glad to help him and to have the extra time with him, but it kept me from getting on the treadmill this morning. I look forward to a nice, long walk tomorrow.

Day 35 -- the end of Week 5

Aug 21, 2008

It's so nice to check in the challenge board each day and read how my colleagues are doing. Isn't it funny that we don't know each other face to face but we know each other nonetheless?? I really count on the little notes we pass back and forth each day. Lisa, Jacqueline, Pam, and Janice--I appreciate your online friendship, support, and encouragement.

Challenge -- yes, my niece and I had Mary Kay facials tonight, and it was fun to pamper ourselves.

The challenge was for 6 weeks, ending with Labor Day. How can another week have passed so quickly?? We start week 6 tomorrow?? Time really does fly!

Day 34

Aug 20, 2008

I had a crazy day yesterday--trying to get ready for my classes to start next week. I'm teaching 3 in-person classes and 3 online classes, and I'm using some new technology in the online classes that's really pushing me. I don't know it well enough yet to be fast, so each piece seems to take me forever. I want everything in place before I open the class Monday, but that might not be the case!

Day 32

Aug 18, 2008

The mess with the Georgetown Hospital - BBSA message boards at MSN is very confusing. It's hard to know which boards to read now. There doesn't seem to be any interest on the doctors' parts in keeping the original boards, but those of us who are post-op are technically the doctors' patients and not Georgetown Hospital's. I'm glad the hospital feels responsible for our follow-up care and is willing to operate the new boards, but I also feel as though I need to keep checking the original board in case the doctors try to communicate with us. And in addition to those 2 boards, we also have a board dedicated to challenges so we can easily find our messages without having to wade through a lot of other messages. YIKES!!

Water -- yes
Move -- yes
Train -- yes
Journal -- yes
Track -- yes
Challenge -- yes, I made progress cleaning my office and sorting through a pile of clothes in my bedroom. Having my workplace and bedroom more organized will make me feel less stressed and less likely to want to eat things I shouldn't eat.

Day 31 of the Its All about Me Challenge from Georgetown

Aug 17, 2008

It's been a beautiful day today--not too hot and unbelieveably sunny. We'll have more HOT weather later this week, but it sure has been nice to have some milder days for a while.

Lisa made a 3-part challenge today: to be happy, to do something enjoyable (preferably involving movement), and eat plenty of protein. For doing 2 of the parts, we get 5 points, but for doing all 3, we get 10!

Water -- yes / 2 points
Move -- no

Challenge -- yes, I had a happy day, I spent time with a delightful friend, and I ate LOTS of protein / 10 points

Day 30

Aug 16, 2008

I had a pretty good day and was able to get back into the exercise mode. That's the best thing I can do to keep my emotions in check and snack food out of my mouth! I also have been giving myself weekly manicures and pedicures, and those help me feel good and keep me from snacking. If I'm really emotionally needy, I can take a hot bath and pamper myself instead of turning to chocolate. And I spend a lot of time online (reading and writing e-mails, reading and writing posts, and working sudoku puzzles). Those activities help a lot. And when I simply MUST snack, I try to choose only healthful snacks. Not keeping the bad stuff in the house is the best way to help myself with that.
