What has been going on.
Jan 28, 2008
Today is my 1 month surgery anniversary. I have lost 37 lbs and the pain is gone. Right now I am on the pureed diet. For some reason I cannot handle any dairy products. I didn't have a problem before but now I get a little nauseous when I eat them. Meat and fruits are great and easily handled. I have been walking but not exercising much more than that. I am still having a little drainage where one of my stitches were, basically a "pocket" of the drainage fluids had developed a few days after the drain was removed. The pocket ruptured and drained a lot of fluids. The doctor hasn't been concerned with it so I am not. My over all mood is good, I am excited abou t the weight I lost and will continue to lose. My clothes are a little baggier and I can tell that I have lost weight-people who don't know that I had the surgery haven't noticed a weight loss-that is my next goal.
My goal for next month is to have lost at least 50 lbs.

1 Week Post Op-The surgery went well according to my doctor. I was very sore when I woke up, filled with gas and had incredible pain in my back. The majority of the pain has gone away. The area on my stomach where the JP drain comes out is sore but that is to be expected. I go tomorrow to have that removed. My Mother stayed with me from Thursday when I came home from the hospital until Sunday night, what a God-send. I honestly couldn't have done it without her. She took care of the kids for me and left me rest, which I needed.
According to my scale at my house I have lost 17lbs!!!! I am excited.

There was more drama with me getting to have my surgery from my last post. Everything is now cleared up and thanks to some financial help from my brother I can have the surgery. Only 6 more days to go. After today 2 more days of work then I am off until January 2nd. I am excited!!!! I talked to the kids to try to get them prepared for when I come home. The hardest thing is going to be not being able to pick up my 3 year old daughter. I never realized how much I pick her up. Things like putting her in the Jeep, putting her into bed with me in the mornings, putting her on the counter to put her shoes on, etc... I have told her that I won't be able to do that anymore, she says okay but she doesn't fully understand. My 8 year old will be a big help around the house too, he is a great kid. My oldest lives with his father but is with me one night a week and every other weekend, he will be a great help too. My family is extraordinary, my parents and brothers are going to be incredible too. I am just counting the days now. Only 6 more to go!

Insurance Problem
Oct 09, 2007
In January I contacted my insurance company about possibly having the gastric bypass surgery. At that time I was told that yes it was covered. I went to the physician in February and started the process. The doctor's office contacted my insurance company in February regarding the necessary requirements. In March I started seeing the Nutritionist, I have now completed all the necessary steps required by the insurance company. Yesterday I got a call from the doctor's office stating that when they called the insurance company for pre-authorization they were told that it is not a procedure covered by my policy. I called customer service for my insurance company and was told by a very helpful representative that now I have to submit an appeal and wait for 30 days for an answer. I am so very frustrated. I was looking forward to this surgery and now I am waiting once again.
