I am a 45 year old caucasion female, that has been overweight most of my life.  I remember when I was 15 years old I weighed 179 lbs and everyone in my family thought I was way too heavy, so I went to Weight Watchers with my friend and lost over 50 lbs, but I don't think I ever mentally accepted that I was slim and still thought of myself as fat.  Six years later I found myself in a very unhappy marriage and gained over 70 lbs in nine months.  I got a divorce after a year and went back to weight watchers, but never really lost back down to my goal weight.  Then seven years later I married my husband that I am still married to and I weighed about 210 lbs when we got married, that has been eighteen years ago and I have slowly crept up to the weight I am now (260 lbs).   I pursued the lapband, had all the evaluations done, was cleared for surgery two years ago and three weeks prior to surgery was called by Dr. Shina's office staff and said that Federal Blue Cross and Blue Shield thought they were approved gastric bypass when they approved my surgery, so I was denied to have surgery.   I have thought long and hard about having the lap gastric bypass and settled in my mind in August 06 (this year) and went to my first seminar to find out more information.  That was on August 15th and now I will be having my surgery on October 20, 2006.  (only three days away).
