Hello Everyone,

My name is Mark and I recently relocated to the southeastern coast of North Carolina (Wilmington).
I live with Betty and our little ShiTzu "Hershey"

I have spent most of my adult life overweight and in the last three years despite countless attempts to lose weight, I have gained about 75 lbs putting me at 300.  Worse is that I seem to wake up every day with another nagging ailment of some type (back pain, sore neck, sore heel, knee pain and the list goes on and on.

Even though I live within minutes from the Ocean, my preferences most days are to come home from work (office desk job) and crash on the couch or bed.  Many nights I don't eat but still gain because lunch is the killer meal for me. I over eat / poorly eat at lunch and then snack when I am awake at night.

I detest excercise and have even gotten to the point where I don't walk our little dog around the block anymore.

Diets of all types have always been extremely difficult for me because I am a food person,  I love food and think about it......I'm thinking about desert long before the meal is finished! Being Italian, I have lived a lifetime eating all the traditional specialties that are just loaded with carbs.

I think you get the picture.

I have been considering WLS for about the last 6-9 months and my quest to learn about it has landed me here at this website.  I have contacted a reputable bariatric surgeon, and have begun the myraid of pre op tests and proceedures. Actually I'm just about done with everything and have a scheduled surgery date of 11/16/09.

One thing that I am very excited about is that I learned that I have chronic sleep apnea. The test results came back so severe that I am awaiting a C-pap machine and I am looking forward to good nights sleep and more energy.  I also learned that sleep apnea contributes to weight gain so I am hopefull that treating the apnea will aid in my weight loss.

I am sure as I get closer to the surgery and post op I will be posting tons of questions and looking for advice from folks here that have already walked the path I am about to undertake.

Thanks in advance,
