Hi Leigh Ann. I have CIGNA HMO (not sure how they differ) and they denied me right off the bat for not having complied with their diet criteria. The good news is that I have now had the surgery....so they DO approve. Just hang in there. If you'd like to chat, just give me a holler. Best of luck....

Leigh Ann, I know that your denial was really devastating, just as it would be for anyone in your situation. Hang in there. Remember the things that you are good at and use them to the best of your ability. You are an excellent researcher and an excellent writer, so put your all into that appeal letter. Remember, you can make this happen someway, somehow. I'm here for you. *hugs*

Leigh Ann do NOT give up on cigna! Thet are a real pain in the ass but many people have been approved after the appeal. Try to talk to the review nurse directly and find out what hoops you will have to jump through in order to get approved. They want to discourage people so they give up but, it is your life and as your ins. carrier they have the duty to cover you to be healthy and if that means bariatric surgery then so be it!

Leigh Ann I am so sorry that you are having such a hard time.. I just want to share something from my trials.. I found the surgeon submitted the one letter to the insurance and then it was all up to me.. I got my butt in gear and wrote a letter to the insurance and then filed a grievance with the state insurnace against that company.. I knew that it would have to be me and my efforts as to weather I succeded or failed.. I was one of the lucky ones, or rather blessed ones.. But just keep on thier case until you get some answers..
