LiamsMommy
I've been significantly overweight as long as I can remember. Ironically, I was fairly skinny when I was born - at only 5 lbs. 11 oz. and 21 in. long. My Mom said I looked like a skinny little baby bird! By 1 month old I doubled my birthweight. I think I kept up that pace my entire life! Growing up, I was always heavier and taller than all my friends, even those 4 years older than me. I stopped getting any taller by 9th grade. I was 5' 6". But the weight kept on coming. I just truly LOVED to eat. When I was 18 I was wearing a size 24 and have remained at that size most of my adult life. By 19, I was diagnosed as hypertensive and have been on antihypertensive medications since. At 31, during my pregnancy, I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes very early in my pregnancy. It never resolved, so I have been diagnosed with Type II (adult onset) diabetes. My son changed my life in so many ways. I now have someone to live for other than myself and my husband. Someone who really needs me. Someone I cannot disappoint or let down. I refuse to die young and leave my son without a mother. Therefore, I decided to undergo WLS. After exploring my options and discussing the experiences of friends and family, I decided to go with the Lap Band procedure. I'm looking forward to this new journey and all the opportunities it will offer me!
