First Fill FINALLY!!!!

Mar 24, 2009

After a 3 week delay due to insurance capitation issues (my insurer Keystone Health Plan East limits me to using a radiology group "closer" to my home, which really means in the same state, since my surgeon is actually located closer to me than the "closer" radiology group). I could not have my first fill done in my surgeon's office when it was due, 3/2/09, because neither he nor his APN could easily access the port. They stuck me about 10 times and finally gave up for fear of puncturing my tubing.

Keystone finally approved pre-certification to have the fill done at Temple-Jeanes' radiology department along with fluoroscopy guided assistance so my surgeon could much more easily access the port. Only 2 sticks this time and within a couple minutes the band was tightened. While I was on the fluoro table they performed an upper GI to make sure I was swallowing ok and that the band was still in the right position. Everything looks good! Unfortunately I'm souping it the next couple of days - bummer! Guess I'll get acquainted again with my old friend tomato soup!

I'm down about 23 lbs since surgery and hope this fill accellerates my loss however I am still very proud of that first 23 lbs!
