2nd Post - Frustration

Dec 16, 2008

Wow, the website has changed this week! I like it! Anyway, I am STILL waiting for the surgeon's office to finish sending my information to the insurance company. Considering I had all my pre-op appointments, like the Nutritionist, the Psych eval, the upper GI, the echocardiogram, etc. all done by the end of October, and my surgeon does NOT require weight loss before sending the case to insurance, you may be wondering why this is taking so long? Apparently it takes several people, several weeks and several follow-up phone calls, for the office to file a fax from the Nutritionist's office proving that I had my 2 required visits. I was told this was going to be worked on starting 10/10 and every time I talked to someone from the office since then. My last appointment with the Nutritionist was 9/19 (today is 12/17). Kind of frustrating. I know most people who run into delays get it from other sources, like the insurance company, but I knew that wouldn't be my problem, unfortunately mine is the surgeon's office staff themselves.

Luckily I was told my insurance company usually responds within a week so once the office finishes sending them the information (I was told on Monday they were working on it... ) I will get my pre-op appointment with the surgeon and then will get a surgery date.

I had to cancel my school registration (I work full time and go to school part time) for next semester, because all the delays mean that my surgery date probably won't be till February, if not March, and I don't want to have surgery in the middle of a semester. Originally I thought I would be able to schedule it for beginning of January and have time to heal before the semester starts, but I spoke to another one of my surgeon's patients and she was scheduled a couple weeks ago for the middle of January, so I'm quite sure that idea is no longer possible.

I'm sure in the long run it will all be worth it.

If I don't post again before Christmas and New Year's I hope everyone enjoys themselves.

Happy Holidays!

This is the first post of many as I begin my journey.

I am waiting for the surgeon's office to get the paperwork together and send it to the insurance company for approval, which, so far, has taken two weeks. They have everything they need, in fact they've had everything they need for awhile now, the just need to get it together. Luckily I've been told my insurance company should approve me within a few days so I'm hoping to get an answer by the end of this coming week and get a date for my pre-op appointment, which is when they'll give me my surgery date.

I'm pretty tired today so I will write more later.

Thanks for reading.
