Ok.  So I've been thinking about having gastric bypass surgery for several years now.  I actually wrote in a notebook before I found this site, so I'm just gonna transfer what I wrote over.

Today I went to St. Joseph East for their gastric bypass seminar.  It was great.  I've already talked to my insurance company and they said they cover gastric bypass surgery for treatment of morbid obesity.  That means a BMI of over 40.  I'm at 44.3.  I started the carb diet today because I know that's what they put you on as a pre-op diet.  I just hope that I'll still qualify if I go below 40 be the time I've been scheduled for sugery.  If so, I can't go below 233.  So that's 25 pounds.  They cover 35-40 with another comorbid condition, but I don't know if my GERD is severe enough to count.  If it is, I have to stay between 232 and 204.  That's 54 pounds.  But considering that they try to get you ready for surgery as soon as possible (she said that some of the people at the seminar could be having the surgery as soon as the first part of October), I think I'll be ok.
I'm excited that I'm actually taking a step to make a change in my life.  I'm scared of sugery, but I know that I'll have people to help take care of me, and I want to be healthy.  I haven't been healthy in like 6 years.  I hope everything works out.  I'm going to call the insurance company tomorrow and ask them about surgeon's fees, hospital room, anesthesiologist, if I need to prove I've been on a medically supervized diet, etc.  I didn't realize I may have to pay for a significant part of it.  If so, I'll talk to my bank and see about taking out a loan.  I'm going to do everything I can to try to make this work.
So.  Day One - stayed on carb diet.  Went to seminar.  Asked questions.  Played raquetall.  I think I did a good job.
