Feb 19, 2010

It has been 18 months since my DS. I have lost about 75 lbs since surgery. I have no more diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol. I feel NORMAL!!!!!! I love my DS. I don't have any problems with gas or loose bowels. I take my vitamins regularly and eat plenty of protein.

6 months

Feb 15, 2009

I can't believe it has been 6 months. Sometimes I forgot I even had surgery. Life is good!! I am down 59 lbs, from size 22/24 to 14/16 and the scale finally started to move again. My 6 months labs came back great, no need to change anything. I poo 1 time a day and haven't had any gas problems but maybe 1 time. I eat almost anything I want, but try to stay clear of bread because it fills me up too much and excessive carbs. I do eat them, just try to keep it to a miniumum. I have cut my blood pressure med in half and that is my only prescription except for a little thyroid med. I am so happy to be free of my diabetes. It is so nice not to have the blood sugar lows. I LOVE MY DS.

I LOVE MY DS!!

Nov 28, 2008

Well, it is official. I LOVE MY DS. I am down to 206.5 lbs from a high weight of about 265 and it has been soooo easy. My biggest trouble seems to be white bread. I don't eat it often, but when I have a few bites, it fills me right up. Can you say "bloated". I passed on the rolls for Thanksgiving and I didn't really miss it. I had about 1/2 cup of mashed potatoes with lots of gravy and butter instead. Then, a little Oreo ice cream.

When I went Christmas shopping for 15 hours on Black Friday, I was able to pick up a few things for myself. I bought and XL sweater at Sam's Club and it fits great. Maybe could have gotten a Large. Who woulda thunk it.

This is so amazing. The other day I saw an older picture of me that really showed my weight and I thought to myself "I AM FREE. I AM FREE FROM EVER HAVING TO BE LIKE THAT AGAIN. THANK YOU GOD FOR MY DS"

I love my DS.

11 week update

Nov 01, 2008

Well, it has been 11 weeks since surgery. I have lost 40 pounds since surgery. I am feeling great. Eating is getting easier everyday. I drink at least 2 protein drinks (34.5 grams) everyday and take my vits. I am off my diabetes meds but am still taking blood pressure meds. I am so glad that I had this surgery because I can feel myself getting "comfortable". I need the DS to help keep me on track. I haven't started exercising but I am going to try and implement it soon

18 day update

Sep 02, 2008

I am 18 days out and feeling pretty good. I went back to work today (desk job) and left 1 1/2 hours early cause I was a little tired, but could have made it if I needed to.

I am very fortunate to be able to get in all my liquids, 3 protein shakes a day and a little food. Egg, refried beans, tuna and chili to name a few.

I have very little pain. Only a "pinch" type of feeling around my belly button, now and then.

I do have my moments of "what did I do?". I am sure that when I am able to get my vitamins down without trouble and a little more food I will feel better.

As far as my Diabetes I am down to 2.5mg of Glyburide, but still have 160 +/- fasting sugar readings and I am still on my blood pressure meds. I really hope that I will be off of these soon. That would help convince me that I made the right decision.

3 days before surgery

Aug 12, 2008

I had by pre-op appointment on Monday and all went well. I have been a little nervous about not making in through surgery, but with a little help from Xanax at night, my nerves have calmed. Tonight, after reading posts, I am starting to get excited. Maya tried to leave me a message on my surgery support page, but notified me that I did not have it set up. Time to start thinking like a post-op.

Saturday, DH and I had lunch with the SCADS. They are so wonderful. They are very supportive and I am so lucky to have found them. Well actually, Laurie Loves Her DS found me and rescued me from the possibility of LapBand or RnY.

Postponed

May 07, 2008

After much struggling, I have decided to postpone my surgery. I was originally scheduled for 5/23/08 but things have come up that would make it just too hard to do at that time. I am sad, but it will be much smoother for me to wait.
Hopefully it won't be later than July.

Mar 18, 2008

So I had my consult with Dr. Crookes on March 17th. He is a lovely man. He wanted to make sure I really wanted the DS and spoke to me about some of the side effects; smelly gas, poo, reflux and bowel obstruction. Luckily he sent me home to think about my options. After reading stories and asking questions, I feel that the DS is the right surgery for me. I have sent him an email to let him know. I just need to have my Nut appointment on 3/26 and then I think I will be ready to submit for insurance approval. I can't wait to not be FAT anymore.
