Jul 14, 2008

Well...I lost a few more lbs since my last post. I am down 60 lbs and I couldn't be happier. My Dad says I have a glow about me. :) I just went into a size 16 and I am thrilled. This is just the beginning of a whole new exciting life. I hope all is well with everyone and I will keep the updates coming. G'night!! :o)

Since I posted anything so just thought I would. Man...sometimes I forget I've had this surgery. Nothing makes me sick and I feel great. I've lost 55 lbs and it is coming off pretty steadily. I am so happy that I had this surgery. It has saved my life. :)

A happy day!!

Day before yesterday, I went shopping for an outfit for my daughter's graduation. I couldn't believe that I was trying on size 18's and they were fitting perfectly. I am so excited because I haven't worn a size 18 since I was about 25 years old. (I'm not almost 40). In the last two days, I've lost another 4 lbs which puts me at 216. My starting weight was 264. I know a stall is probably right around the corner so I am just basking in the glory of weightloss at this moment. :) I am feeling great! Hope everyone has a great day and happy losing!!!

My weight loss journey.

May 14, 2008

I had originally decided in March, 2007 to have the Lapband procedure done. I saw a commercial for it and was thrilled that there was a less evasive procedure than RNY gastric bypass. I knew lots of people that had the RNY procedure (some successful and some not so successful) and I just never felt like it was something for me so when the Lapband was announced, I immediately scheduled myself for a seminar. After the seminar, I checked with my insurance and discovered that my company’s policy didn’t elect any type of WLS. I was crushed. Then I decided to try the Navy. Being a Navy wife, I knew I would be eligible to have my surgery at the Naval hospital but then I discovered that the Navy only preformed RNY gastric bypass. So…I did some serious soul searching, talked to my husband and my family and decided to go to another seminar. I met my surgeon, Dr. Mann at that seminar and after hearing him talk about the differences between Lapband and RNY, I felt totally comfortable having the RNY procedure. I was placed on a waiting list for 9 LONG months. During those months, I read and researched all that I could about my upcoming procedure. I spoke to anyone that I could that had had the procedure also. Not one person that I talked to or heard from said they had any regrets. Every person said the same thing whether they were 5 months out or 5 years out, they would say “I’d do it again in a heartbeat!!” Once I made the decision to have RNY gastric bypass, I have not once questioned my decision. That’s how I knew it was the right one for me. One of my best friends had this surgery almost 5 years ago and I just wish that I would have done it then with her instead of wasting 5 more years being unhealthy and overweight.

I had my surgery March 17, 2008. I never felt any anxiety of the surgery and even the morning of I was very calm. My surgery was almost text book and my recovery was pretty smooth. I’ve discovered since surgery that I don’t like eggs anymore which is a bummer because I’ve loved them all of my life and need the protein from them, but that’s just part of it I guess. When I had my surgery, I was on meds for high blood pressure, high triglycerides, and acid reflux. Since my surgery, I’ve lost 33 lbs, dropped two pants sizes and am no longer on any meds other than my Actigal. And I will be happy to come off of that once I reach the sixth month post op. I’m doing great with my eating. I haven’t dumped or been sick at all and I haven’t had any trouble with anything that I’ve eaten so far. I have completely stayed away from sugar. I’m totally not interested in testing the waters there to see if I will dump or not and I haven’t missed the sugar so that’s really good. I have stalled though. I have not lost one single pound in three weeks. I didn’t know going in that I would stall this early. I knew that I would have stalls during my weight loss but I thought it would be way down the road, 8/9 months out. Never dreamt that I would stall at the 5 week mark…lol. I’ve since learned from this amazing website that this is actually quite normal and I shouldn’t get discouraged. I’m trying not to but I have my daughter’s high school graduation in one month and really wanted to be down a bunch of weight prior to that but maybe I’ll pick back up again real soon. Anyway…that’s my journey to date. Hopefully I will be able to give a weight loss update real soon. :)

Struggling...

Man...I am totally craving some carbs.  I am about 7 1/2 weeks post op and I am craving bread, pizza, bagels anything loaded with carbs.  I haven't even thought about breads until this week, what's up with that??  Is there anything a bypass patient can do to curb wanting a big ole sandwich??  ugh...lol.
