My Wonderful Sleeve!

May 09, 2012

I have not blogged since my surgery but wanted to update it so that others can see what a wonderful, but tough journey it is. I am almost 5 months post op from my VSG which I had December 19, 2011. I am down 60lbs and am loving the new life my sleeve has brought me. I wont say it is easy, because it is not. It takes hard work, dedication and willpower to accomplish the loss. I am still losing and my goal is another 19 lbs.

12/19/11 - Surgery Day - very nervous but excited. The wait was long, they had me come in 5 hrs prior to my surgery so the anxiety just built up. Once in the prep room, it was quick in and out. I dont remember waking up in the recovery room, I only remember waking up in my room, looking at my husband and telling him he could go, LOL. I was in alot of pain, way more than I had expected. Then I found out they had also fixed my Hiatal hernia which I didnt know I had. So i think that was most of the pain. I was up walking within about 6 hours after my surgery. I would walk around the unit floor, go back, sleep a couple hours, get up and walk again. This went on all night. I couldnt do the ice chips, but warm tea really worked. My heartrate was unusually high during the night so they called the Dr. and he had them do a blood workup to make sure I didnt have a leak and was bleading. It all came back fine, so they put it to me being in pain. Through the night, my night nurse was right on top of giving me my pain meds. Every two hours I would have one pain med, then two hours later a different pain med. He was an amazing nurse. I made it through the night.
12/20/11 - My day nurse came on and she wasnt very attentive at all. I constantly had to ask for my pain meds. Anyway, Dr. came in and said I was doing great and let me go home at 11am, 24 hrs after my surgery. We had a 2 hour drive home from the hospital, which was very uncomfortable. I did my darndest to drink as much as i could.  When I got home, i slept and slept and slept for that day and two more. Only got up to drink broth, water, go potty and go back to sleep.
