I've struggled with my weight since high school. But the real struggle didn't come until 10 years ago. This is due to a chronic lung disease (Sarcoidosis) that I was diagnosed with in December 1997. Mind you I haven't always been small. But when they put me on steriods it blew me up like a hot air balloon. I also have severe athritis which both conditions keep me from being as mobile and active as I would like to be.
My pulmonary doctor suggested weight loss surgery to me back in May 07. I was like...no thanks I'll try it on my own. I tried...I changed my eating habits and exercising the best that I could. But that didn't help enough so when I went to see him in July he brought it up again. I told him no...again. But it stayed on my mind, so I started going on-line and researching and talking to co-workers that have already had the surgery. So when I went back to my doctor on 10/24/07 I told him that I would like to do the weight loss surgery. He told me he was happy that I decided to go with it and felt that I was making the right choice. And it would make a tremendous difference in my health issues. So I decided to go for it and so I began the journey.
