9 Mos Update, Weighed in at 153

Jul 14, 2011

I can hardly believe it has been 9 mos since I had my surgery.  I am feeling so good about it.  I love that I feel better and have really increased my energy level.  My goal was to feel better and to improve my health.  And so far so good.

My surgeon  asst. is very pleased with my progress.  Its funny because I think my first follow up and now my 9 mos follow up, my status was the same.  (not one complaint or problem)  He walks in and says it is good to hear that you are not sure why you are here today :)  My first visit he said (you are boring :)

I asked what he thought I should have as a goal weight and he said that a normal BMI of 25  for me would put me at 140 lbs.  I had been considering 145 (BMI would be 26) he said it really didnt matter.  I think I shall strive for the 140 or maybe even 135 to give me some room for weight fluctuations.  So, i need to kick my butt in gear.  He said my calories at 1200 were good, but that I do need to get more exercise.  And to help speed up my loss to maybe also cut the calories.  So I really need to start walking more and maybe dust off my exercise cd and start using it.  Sigh!!!!

I will do this.  I can do this.

Also asked about me drinking fully loaded coffee(with caffeine) and he said it wouldnt hurt if I kept it at 2 a day.  I told him I really didnt want to start the habit again, but really wanted to make sure that it wouldnt hurt me.  They just worry about coffee if you have ulcers, and thank goodness I dont. (I am currently on vacation with my friend Sandi, and have been having coffee everymorning UMMM)  But, I think when I get home I will wean my self off and go back to drinking my decaff tea's. Atleast with the teas, i dont put cream in them :).

Oh and last but not least.  My PCP has been having test my thyroid and she has dropped my Levothyroxine twice now.  I started at 125 and now am at 88.  Wow, is that great or what.  Maybe, fingers crossed, I will be soon off.  Yeah, that would for sure put me at goal of being off all my meds, except I will be on insulin for life.

Swing the lizards, cross your fingers and wish me luck to get to 140 lbs before 10/28/11.

7 mos update

May 25, 2011

I am 7 mos out and feeling pretty good.  Very happy that I made the decision to have surgery and followed through with it.  I am a very slow loser but I shouldnt complain.  I have had many compliments and comments that I am going to blow away.  Hah.  The funny thing is, I always thought that a size 14 was a perfect size for me.  And, now I am like, I think a size 10 or maybe another 30 lbs would be better.  Today I have lost 68 lbs.  In a Size M or L, just depending on the clothes.  Blows me away that I can wear these sizes.
My labs came back ok, I guess.  My iron seems to be low, my protein level is low, but nothing majoy according to my PCP.  She did retest my thyroid and it is a little low, going to lower my thyroid.  Maybe that is why I have been so tired the last few day.  Last Sunday, I went to bed at 7:30pm.  It was crazy, still light outside and I just had to go to bed.

Have been having a busy couple of weeks.  My son Tanner graduated high school last week.  Oh yeah!!!!  And my youngest was promoted last night.  Gee do I feel old.  I will be facing the empty nest syndrome soon.  I am hoping to start traveling when they both leave.  Maybe some cruises and etc.  Looking for some girlfriends who want to be my traveling companions.

3 mos and down 47 lbs

Feb 03, 2011

I got my 3 mos labs back and very excited that my A1C was 6.1.  Oh yeah that is exciting.  My Dr was very happy.  I sure hope that I can keep those levels good. My Vit B was high, D level was in the norm,
Today I had a eye exam and Dr said that my eyes are great, last visit I had some blood clots and they are completly gone.  She said that I am keeping my diabetes under good control.  Gee I love good reports.  Those havent happened in many years.

And today I bought some new clothes and I could wear a............size large.  OMG is that exciting.  I looked at them thinking there was no way that would fit and they did.  I just love it.

Started doing Zumba

Jan 14, 2011

Doing Zumba at my friend Kelly's house 3 nights a week.  Looking forward to it and having fun.  There are about 6 of us and already have some flaky people.  But ok with me, less is best.  Andddddd i can bend over now to tie my shoes.  Haven't done that in a long while.  Hope the exercising helps my weight loss.  I seem to be really slow at losing the weight.  And I haven't even cheated on my eating.

2 Month follow-up

Jan 06, 2011

My appointment went well.  I am down 40 lbs.  Dr said doing good.  Still no complications :) and not complaining.  I was telling the Doc that my body feels achy and sometimes even putting on my bra seemed to make me feel old and achey.  He asked how many calories am I eating and I said somewhere in the 800's or less.  Said i need to eat more, around 800 to 1000, otherwise my body will not do well.  I was also surprised that he thought I should be able to get all my protein in without drinking protein drinks.  Yikes.  I do not know how I will manage that with such small serving sizes etc.  He told me to increase my servings and see how well my stomach handles it.  Gave me labs to do at 3 mos.  I will be interested to see how my vitamin levels are.
My blood sugar levels have really leveled off.  Yeah.  No more visits by the paramedics.  Hope to keep that up.
My blood pressure was 104/59. Pretty awesome as I havent taken my lisinopril since day of surgery.
I also have been rarely using my c-pap since surgery as well.  Hopefully at my next visit I can be removed from it.
All for now.  Loving the new me and moving on to better health.

Insulin pump

Dec 02, 2010

I had to break down and put my insulin pump back on.  I have been struggling with my blood sugars and just had to get them under control.  I was really hoping to not have to wear this thing on my body 24/7.  Oh well, i have a feeling my weight loss will be slower but at least I will be under control. I have lost 30 lbs and am currently on a stall.  One of the reasons could be I was not getting in my protein as I couldnt stand my protein drinks.  Last couple of days I have been trying them again and doing ok.  Plus a friend at work who had the surgery 5 yrs ago, gave me some Unjury chicken broth and it is pretty good.  Also a nice change of pace with lots of protein.  I do need to be better at my water consumption, I love water and if i dont bring a measured water container, I lose count of my portions.  Well I am sure hoping for much success at this surgery.  I would like to lose another 10 lbs by Christmas......  We will see.

2 week follow up

Nov 18, 2010

Went to my follow up with the surgeon and he asked all the normal questions, did i have pain, nausea etc.  I answered no to them all and he looked up at me and said "wow you are boring"  I responded Gee I thought you would be happy for me and he laughed and said he was.  He said I could move on to the soft food stage,  Yeah, I told him I was ready to sink my teeth into some real food.  One of my questions to him was, what did he think my goal weight should be.  140-160.  I had in mind around 135-145, so that is good.  I really do not want to me a size 2 and look unhealthy.  My cat scan results were good.  It said my results were unremarkable.  I do have some cysts on my kidney, but the doc said those are just water pockets and nothing to worry about.  I have lost 25 lbs.  Woot woot.  I am really struggling to get in enought protein as after surgery i no longer like my protein drinks.  Loved them before, but now yuck.  Hopefully that will change. I want to eat as much protein as possible to get in my quota but not sure that is going to work.  I will just keep working on it.

Post-op day 6 and down 15 lbs

Nov 03, 2010

I really need to keep my blog up to date.  Yikes.  I have been through such a rollercoaster ride and here I am 6 days after surgery and doing well. Last pain med was taken when I left the hosptial.....
My surgery went very well.  I have had no complications at all so far   I did have Lap RNY and they found and repaired my Hiatal Hernia.  They said that my gallbladder looked just awesome.  I had asked about having it removed with surgery as often times people have to go back in and have it removed.  My goal is to not have to keep having surgery if at all possible.  I am Type 1 diabetic for 31 years and have not had to go back on my insulin pump.  So far  as of yesterday I had to start taking Lantus in Morn and Eve.  Maybe eventually I can eliminate it all together I am only taking 1 out of 4 prescriptions so far.  My Levothyroxine is it for now.......

I am so excited about this new journey I am on and cant wait to sit on the losers bench.

Thank you to all my friends for your support and guidance through all this.  Love ya all.

Day 6 and it was horrible

Sep 14, 2010

My appeal was denied for surgery. What a horrible day.  Having the rug pulled out from under me was just more than i could handle today.  According to the insurance company I have to request a State Hearing, I have to have my pcp Delyte write a new letter and provide more documents etc.  Such a load of doo doo.  Just love these health insurance companies.  Now i get to wait again and start all over.  I expected from the get go that I would have to fight with the insurance company but when i got the phn call saying I was approved and surgery was scheduled i was elated.  Oh well guess i better stop whining and move on :)

Day 5 of liquid diet

Sep 12, 2010

I have made it to day 5, hope its not in vain.  I have done very well.  My sugar has dropped several times and have been tyring to adjust my levels.  I did break the rules today and had some grean beans, a little garden salad and a slice or pork roast.  I dont really feel to guilty as according to a pre-op diet info i received from the Ctwd dietician it said you could have one regular meal a day as long as it was veggies and protein and no carbs.
