Getting the ball rolling

Oct 16, 2009

I am in week 6 of Kaiser's 20 week pre-op bariatric options classes. At the end of the 20 weeks if you have done everything they teach you and ask of you and have lost 10% of your starting weight then you get refered to one of the surgeons and then they say the wait to have surgery is not too long. Seems like a long time from now, but the classes are very informative and I see how much they will help post -op knowing how to eat and excercise and the emotional side of the changes too.
I weighed 307 last wed at class, I am only 5 feet 2 inches, so that is hard to even say to myself, but 6 weeks ago I weighed 319 at the first class, and 2 weeks prior to that it was 323 or 324 at a Dr. apt.
I have been heavy most of my whole life, I am 38 and feel very old. My husband is also very heavy with a lot of health problems and his health worries me a lot, his feet hurt so much he can hardly get around, the Dr. said it is neropathy from his diabetes, so loosing him to his health scares me a lot.  He is eating better too and bought a really nice excercise bike and gym type weight lifting machine that the whole family can benafit from. I also dusted off my 6 year old Nordic Track treadmill and started walking, my knee is hurting and shin splints put me out of commosion for a few days but I am not giving up! I also got a Gazelle glider off of Craigs list really cheap.
I have been a hair stylist for 17 years, I work in front of all those mirrors all day and never once look up at myself in them because it is too depressing to have to see myself. The thought of getting my picture taken causes me a lot of stress and actually makes me feel sick to my stomach. My husbands sweet family loves to take pictures at holidays and then make me have to see them latter, they have no idea how embarrised it makes me feel.
I seem to always be doing something to help someone else, even at work my job is to make someone else look good, well it's my turn now!!
