8 Days Post-Op

Dec 23, 2008

Today is Day 8 Post-Op and I am doing pretty good.  My incisions feel great, all but one, but my back hurts so bad.  I think it is from sleeping sitting up and for compensation for the pain in the one incision.

I tried some pureed meatballs last night -  must have not measured right and was not paying attention when I was eating.  About 4 hours later I finally threw up a few times and then felt fine.  That has been my first experience with that.  Besides my first day home when I was dehydrated and just had to drink through it.

I has been OK so far.  Everyday gets better and I can't wait to see how I am a year from now.  I still have a hard time watching people eat - but I am hoping that will get better as I am able to eat 'real' food instead of the pureed stuff that I am still on.

The hardest part is getting in 64 oz. of water.  How am I suppose to do that when for four of my waking hours of the day I can't drink anything (after I eat - no drinking for 90 minutes).  So far I have only done that one day, and that was when I was at home on the couch recovering.

I returned to work one week after the surgery - had surgery on Monday, back to work the following Monday.  It hasn't been bad.  I am taking 'smoke breaks' (hey - the smokers get 'em) and doing my 20-40 minutes of walking at work so it is out of the way when I get home to my family.

Let's hope this journey keeps going this smooth.  I still haven't been 'released' into the wild yet, Christmas, restaurants, dinner at other people's house, etc, so I know there are more waves to navigate.
