401K and Cardio Clearance

Mar 01, 2007

Okay today we got te news that since I need to cash out the 401K for medical purposes, they will allow us to take out what we need for the medical stuff and they WON'T make him pay penalties on the money, not to mention when he cashes out his 401K they have him on a 6 month probationary period where he can not contribute and he would loose any contributions of his employer (I think) as well, and this way they don't do any of that....

After we called the Dr to get the price we would need for the surgery (for the Dr, hospital, anesthesia, and 3 post op adjustments) we got the appointment for my cardio clearance for the banding... The apointment is set for the 10:30 am on March 5th....  We are on our way....

Insurance, SurgeryLoans.com, 401K

Feb 27, 2007

Well We tried to get the insurance company to add the surgery and they told us that because the company was under 100 employees that they couldn't add that rider (they couldn't change the policy to add that on there)... So while we were waiting to hear from that we went to www.surgeryloans.com and tried to get a loan from them... Well we were denied from that because they require a credit score of 630 or higher and we were just shy of that... Also when Chris (hubby) learned about the insurance thing he called the guy about cashing out his 401K since last time we tried to borrow against it they told us that the company had opted not to let people borrow from it, so he asked if he could roll it over to another place to avoid all the tax and penalties and the other place would allow him to borrow against it so I can get my surgery... The 401K guy said that he thinks the company changed the 401K policy to allow borrowing against it since last time we needed the money we had to cash it out (we know the company hasn't changed the policy, but will let that guy try anyway)... So now we are looking at definately cashing out the 401k or at the VERY LEAST roll it over to the bank one so that we can borrow against it (personally I don't think they will allow that either).... I think we will be cashing it out and paying the penalties and then I will get to have a surgery date and surgery... Trying to stay optimistic, but it's hard when you keep hitting that wall...

Have you ever noticed that when people are trying to get insurance approval, or loan approval or whatever they have the most negative thoughts??? Like they don't believe it will ever happen or they always expect the worst??? I know why... I mean if you always wish for the best, and expect the worst and you get something in the middle then your always satisfied... It's sad that we do that to ourselves since our self-esteme is low enough already, but I guess that's our safety net, our shield, our guard....

Well I am gonna go do something constructive now...

HUGGERS!!!!

Denied

Feb 21, 2007

Called Dr. Spiegel's office today to get a Ref. # and they told me that WLS is an exclusion on hubbies insurance...  I told hubby that he should talk to his work about getting it included (they are a small company and like to keep him happy), and what all to make sure they tell the insurance Co....  I was somewhat prepaired for this, as I knew what others have gone through so we had started to try to get a 2nd on the house to cover the surgery... Course the bad news on that came a few weeks ago (we were denied)... The only other possibilities I can see now is that we MIGHT get enough to cover it if we cash out hubby's 401K after penalties and taxes, but then again that's a MIGHT.... The only reason we got me on the insurance was to get this surgery done in the first place... It's 700 a month just to be on the insurance... I am going to use them for the bloodwork, and the cario visit Dr. Spiegel wants me to get, but other than that it looks like we will be canceling it shortly after that... I mean what's the point if they aren't going to cover anything??? Anyway I'm now a bit depressed so I am gonna go do something to try to cheer myself up... wish me luck....

First appointment

Feb 17, 2007

I went to Dr. Spiegel's seminar, and it was COOL... He was articulate, but didn't talk over your head... He used common wrds and some technical words, but not too much... He cracked a few jokes, but wasn't silly.... The ladies in the office were SUPER!!!! They let me touch their port site to see what it felt like (was neat)....

So I got on their scale, and the scale cried at 402.... that's a lot... the most I have ever weighed... And the DR. was SHOCKED that I didn't have more CoMorbidies than I have... He said he knew I had Sleep Apnea, and my blood pressure was a little high, but shoot for my weight it was good... He said the only Dr he wants me to see is his Cardiologist, just to be on the safe side, other than that we will have to wait and see what the insurance says/does...

The ladies in the office told me to call them on Wednesday and they will give me my case number... They are calling the insurance company and getting the approval started and said we should hear something back within 14 days...
