I GRADUATED!!

Sep 27, 2007

Yeah!  I'm done with my 6 month Dr. surpervised diet.  My pcp said she would get my paperwork in order and fax it to Legacy.  I'm soo.. impatient.  I might have to call tomorrow and make sure they got the fax :)  I just want to get this show on the road.

To be continued........

I have changed my mind.

Hmm...well it's been a while since I've posted anything here.  Mostly because I was just doing what I needed to do.  See my nutritionist and Dr. once a month for six months, I have 2 to go and then my Dr. supervised weight loss thing will be over.  Anyway, it turns out it may be a good thing I had to wait the six months.  I've been doing alot of research during this time and have discovered DS.  I'm now 100 percent positive it's the WLS for me.  Unfortunately, my ins. says it does not cover DS, but since medicare now does I'm hoping I can get  approved for it.  Another hitch, Legacy, the clinic I orginally settled on doesn't do DS.  I'm going to call OHSU and go to one of their seminars and get that ball rolling.

Just seems like it's been a roller coaster this past six months.  I'm hanging on tight!!!

two months down, four more to go....

Met with my Nut again today.  Much as I hated the idea of having to wait 6 mos. and jumping through hoops for ins., I don't really mind these visits.  She is also a mental health counselor and I've found I benefit from talking to her...purging my fears, insecurities etc.

Met with Nutrional Counselor

...she was very helpful.  She said she has worked with many patients making the journey toward WLS.  I am beginning to think this may work out.

Pleased again...

I was pleasantly surprised yesterday by a call from a nurse at Legacy O.I.  She was just following up to see if I had in fact talked to my PCP about the 6 month diet and letting me know she would follow through and contact me again in about 3 months to see how things were going.  Everyone has been so great!  My doctor, the Legacy staff and especially the people I have met here on the OH boards.

Oh!  One funny (or not so) thing Kathy told me.  She had made a mistake on the paper work she sent to my insurance company.  She put my height as 6'5", instead of 65"....big difference.  Took my BMI form 49 something to 35.4.  Well, she didn't have to admit it, so I thought that was cool, and she said because I'm required to do the 6 month thing it really doesn't matter.  She's right.  I'll just keep on keeping on........

One step Forward...

Mar 30, 2007

I went to Dr. McNichol, my PCP, yesterday.  She was totally willing to help me with the 6 month supervised weight loss program.  Thinks I am a great candidate for Bariatic surgery.  She even set me up with the nutritionist and counselor my insurance requires.  I was really happy about this turn of events because yesterday, in every other way, was a HORRIBLE day.  I really don't think I could have handled it well if she was not on board with WLS.

Aarrgghh....

Mar 24, 2007

so, I got a letter today from my insurance company today saying why at this time they won't pay for the WLS.  All pretty much what I was told by the nurse at Legacy who called me, with the exception of one big thing.  Somehow, my ins. was given the wrong height and weight for me,.  Making my BMI appear to be 38.4, when in actuality, it's 48.6.  I wish it was the first but it's NOT.  I'm just irritated beyond belief.  Can no one do their job right.  Now, it's Saturday and I can't get hold of anyone at the my insurance company or Legacy until Monday.  Just so frustrating.

good news/bad news

Mar 20, 2007

March 20, 2007.        Well, I found out yesterday that my insurance will pay for the surgery, BUT first they want me to do a 6 month Dr. surpervised weight loss program.  I am so frustrated!!  I just don't see the point.  Why would they want to pay for me to do this program for 6 mos.  instead of just letting me have the surgery now.  I just feel it's a issue of control.  "Be a good little girl and do as I say and eventually I'll give you what you want".   Let me just say, I'm going to do it and at the end of the six months, I'm going to forge ahead with the surgery.  I can play NICE.

my impatience.....

Mar 13, 2007

had me calling the clinic to find out if they had received my app.  I was told it usually takes 4 to 6 weeks before you hear anything.  Argghhh!!  I know I want to do this now, so I don't want to wait.  I wish I had followed through in Sept., but after the death of my Mom in August, I could barely function, let alone consider doing something so drastic about my weight.  Well..... if you believe everything happens the way it's supposed to.....I guess I have to just let things play out.

hmmm.....
