Happy Holidays!

Dec 27, 2009

Well, I made it through Christmas, which for me meant "just endure".  I didn't enjoy the holiday this year, but I do have high hopes for subsequent years.  So, I'm recovering, finally.  I still have a drain in place which promises to be around for another two weeks. at least.  During my recovery, I've had a variety of things go on - from superficial venous system blood clots to a huge infection to plantar fasciitis, you name it.  The antibiotics created a yeast infection and I'm on my fourth cycle since surgery.  I have really bad acid reflux which leads me to sleeping in the recliner which is hard on my rear (hemorrhoid).  Then the hemorrhoid medicine gives me a huge headache.  One thing leads to another, and it is a comedy of errors right now.  However, since this is a revision journey, things are not all that bad.  My doctor pulled out the feeding tube at my six week post op visit, meaning I've about dodged the leak bullet.  As much as I would like to carry on with "poor me", things could definitely be worse, so for now, I'll be happy to just count my blessings.
As this is a revision journey, I find myself at times asking myself, "Why couldn't you have made the RNY work?", or even, "why couldn't you just diet and exercise and get this off?"  Intuitively, I know the answer--I couldn't have.  Yet, if I truly knew and understood how hard this revision journey was going to be, I wouldn't have done it!  Thankfully, I didn't know all the details, and there's no turning back now.  In the end, I'm sure I'll reflect back and say, "Oh, it wasn't that bad."  For now, I'm trudging on, grateful that each day it gets a little easier.
I hope everyone else is doing well on their journeys.  I would love to hear from you.

Recovering from second hospital stay

Dec 19, 2009

Was hospitalized last week due to infection - this was NOT a fun stay.  I came home feeling worse that I did the first time.  I'm glad they didn't tell me exactly how hard this was going to be because I may not have done it.  I know in the end it will be worth it, even if this isn't so much fun right now.  The infection is under control, I'm on a two week round of antibiotics which are making me sick, and I'm way behind on preparations for the holidays.  Otherwise, I"m doing OK.

Conversion surgery over; tired, tired, tired!!

Nov 29, 2009

Can't believe it's already been two and a half weeks since surgery.  Seems so far away yet I am so tired!  I am 10x more tired than when I had my RNY, but this is okay.  Slow going with rest, exercise and even eating.  Yet digestion is better than before and am so looking forward to improved health!
