I have been obese my whole life. I have tried diets and failed. I have lost 100lbs 2x in my life time only to gain it back by poor diet and lack of activity. I choose the RNY to make a life altering change in my eating. I wanted to gain control of what I put into my body. In the past I never felt full or feeling full was what I was looking for when I ate.
In 2003 I got remarried and moved to the state of Maryland. Do not get me wrong I love my husband but when I moved here food was my only friend. Needless to say I had a radical hysterectomy , moved left the job and patients I loved and left behind a grown daughter and a handicapped mom. So food was my salvation. I ate til I got to be the size I am today. At one point I could not even go up and down the stairs to do laundry or get to the garage with out huffing and puffing. I made the decision to have the surgery and I have followed all the ups and downs that Kaiser Permanante has put me thru to come to the point of getting a surgeon and a date for my surgery.
Sure I am afraid and I know I will have a funeral for the loss of my appetite and the foods that got me to this point but in the end I will be a healthier person who will be able to run with the grand-kids and walk a parade with the drum corps and walk up and down steps , fit in a movie theater comfortably, and a restaurant booth. To sit on a chair and not worry if it is strong enough to hold my weight. I am looking forward to these goals. Oh and fly on an airplane and not feel poured into my seat with the arms glued to my side and the extra addition to the seat belt.
This is the life I am looking forward to. I know it will be a long journey but atlas it has been a long life struggle with the  weight that I carry now. Looking forward to a new beginning.
