It's Been SIX Years!!

Dec 13, 2007

Wow, I almost forgot!  How could I forget the day that changed my life forever?  I know that pre- and newbie post-ops are always wondering what it will be like for them years out from the surgery.  I know I did.  I wanted to talk to anyone who had begun living their life after GBS.  That many years ago it was hard to find people who were sharing their stories so far out.  So...what do you want to know about what life is like 6 years after having surgery?

Let me just let you know that I maintained my weightloss for the most part.  The last year has been filled with LOTS of change in my life - new job, new move across the country, lots of business travel, becoming an empty-nester (yeah!), trials with my son - you know, real life.  I have put on 10 lbs from my initial 170 lbs loss and I am feeling it.  I let my guard down and the weight came back.  That is the most important thing.  You can never forget to be mindful of what you are doing to and for yourself.  I had stopped going to support group with our move and being away from all my WLS friends was and still is difficult.  But I do know what the tools are and one of the first things I have done is get started back into a support group.  I believe that to be the number one tool in our toolboxes for being successful with this surgery.  Build that discipline early because it will carry you through when you find that you can start eating pretty much everything that you used to be able to.  Once you hit that realization, you must have strong disciplines to fall back on.

Wishing you all the best and God's blessings...

What is a Blog???

Mar 25, 2007

I've heard of a blog.  I read blogs.  I've posted to blogs.  My sister has a blog.  Rosie O'Donnell has a blog.  I guess I even have a blog.  But I'm not quite sure what a blog is!  I think it might be a stream of conciousness at any given point in time.

Anyway, I'm 5 years out and must say that finally, there are several moments each day when I am not consumed by some thought concerning food!  I thought that I was obsessed with food before I had surgery but I am coming to the conclusion that this is just part of my disease and I must come to terms with it.  It's like every other struggle we have - it ends with the journey when you are looking up from the box!  Have a great day!
