What a Difference a Year Makes

Jun 18, 2019

Today marks the 1year anniversary of my surgery! 105 pounds are gone. I’m 2 size away from my dress size goal and feel fabulous. In this time I’ve become a major hiker. In six months I’m preparing to hike in Iceland which would never have been possible a year ago.

New Year’s Eve Excitment

Dec 31, 2018

Today is New Year’s Eve and tomorrow I will be 7 months post op. Super excited as I’ve lost 85 lbs and finally started weighing in the 100s. Talk about a major transformation going into the new year. I spent the last week getting rid of 15 boxes of clothes. Can’t believe I had that much stuff but now realize I need to do some shopping but holding off until I’m 9 months out. So until then just essential pieces as needed.

4 months out

Oct 10, 2018

Yesterday was 4 months since surgery. Kind of freaking out over 65 lbs lost and 4 dress sizes down. Feeling fabulous and excited to keep this journey going. The first 2 months was rough but I have adjusted into a new routine. This weekend I will take back up my hiking which I put on hold. So I am glad to go back into the wild as I find it relaxing to walk a trail in solidtude. I still have more to go to hit my goal weight but not thinking about it as much as I did in the beginning. I found dewelling on the end result difficult and unhealthy. I am enjoying the suttle changes. It's amazing to see friends and family members notice. Now if I can just wrap my head around buying new clothes.  I do have to thank my clothing fairy! They took pity on me after my bathing suit kept falling off while trying to swim. I ended up with a new swim suit and work out clothes compliments of my fairy godmother. So I at least have fitted clothes to workout in.

1 month out!!!!

Jul 18, 2018

Yesterday was my one month follow-up appointment. I”ve lost 31 lbs since surgery. This is quite insane. Certainly clothes are literally starting to fall off of me. My mom is almost insistent that I buy new pjs but I refuse. I did have to break down to buy a new bra because that’s a necessity. My sister was so impressed that she forced me into picking an outfit to go out in that she paid for that was 3x but in the junior”s section. I normally buy 4x in the women”s and never would go to the junior”s section because they still run small. I was shocked to actually fit it and to see my friends faces when I came in the club was priceless.

2 weeks Post-Op

Jul 02, 2018

Tomorrow I will officialy be 2 weeks post-op. I have not had many complications during my liquid phase. However after 1 week the doctor said I could start supplements. I thought I was going to die that day because of the gas and pain. I discontinued them after that day which he is aware and will restart them tomorrow. Otherwise I've lost nearly 15lbs during this phase. It's a strugle to stay hydrated but my family has been super supportive and daily they show up with new items for me to try to consume, i.e. various protien waters, broths, sugar free popsicles. I constantly have to remind my mom that it's ok for me to have a life. I frequently go to karaoke on Sundays. So yeaterday was the first day I went out to go sing. She was paranoid I would hurt myself and could not see why would I go somewhere where I could not eat and drink. If anything I reassured her I would be fine. Where I go for karaoke most of the staff knew about my surgury. So it was fine. I had the broth from chicken noodle soup and water...proving to my mom that my life doesn't end just because of the surgury. This week I head off to Vegas for a few days to have some fun. Yes it will be a challenge but I love challenges :)

Surgery Day!!!!

Jun 20, 2018

Just saw my doctor who indicated going inside me was a bag of surprises. We knew I had a hernia but turns out the hernia was just a large as my stomach. Due to my previous C-section and hysterectomy there was a lot of scar tissue. My intestine somehow had fused itself to the abdominal wall. Because of this he decided to go with the gastric sleeve instead of the gastric bypass. He was worried that removing the intestine from the abdominal wall would create more complications. By repairing the hernia, he was able to move the part of the stomach the retracted into my esophagus out. So now I officially joined the loser bench yesterday!
