Two Weeks & Two Days since Surgery

Jun 13, 2007

I just wanted to do an update on how I am.
As you can see from my weight ticker is moving.
woooooo hoooooo!
It's been a little hard but I am determined.  I feel like I'm ready for regular food but know I'm not supposed to have it.  My weekness is pizza.
I have been exercising by walking for 10 mins in my small pool and swimming in it for 5 mins.  I do that twice a day to get 30 minute exercise.  When I don't do that I mainly walk.
People say they can see the weightloss but I can't tell just what the scales show.
I am now discussing my lap-band with people.  Before I wasn't comfortable sharing because if I was to fail I wouldn't want everyone to know or get discouraged if they were thinking of having it done.

Good luck and keep praying, I know I am.

4 Days after Surgery-daily update

Jun 01, 2007

Weds- felt good to be home.  I was able to eat full liquids and do fine.
Walked once around the outside of my house.  Some pain took hydrocone elixir.

Thurs- Felt pretty good and handling the full liquids ok, it's harding getting the protein I need.  Also I have started breaking out into a red rash on my belly all over it.  Called my weightloss surgery group and they said to take benedryl for the itching.  Call next day if not any better.
Rested alot more than usual probably because of the benedryl.
Walked twice around the outside of my house. Some pain no medication.

Fri- Woke up really nauseated and sore.  Had a bad night with nightmares and pain.  Didn't take my hydrocodone elixir so not sure why I had nightmares.  I was really nauseated and couldn't eat my full liquids breakfast.  Checked my dietminder book for my food and couldn't find anything I'm allergic to and haven't changed anything in detergents or anything to suggest reason for rash.  Went to see the nurse at the weightloss center.  She couldn't believe how it got worse my neck was all broke out and my forhead was starting to break out.  I am worried aobut being allergic to the lap-band.  She didn't think so.  We couldn't get a hold of the surgeon so I had to go to urgent care and get a steroid shot.  Was able to eat lunch and dinner.  Nurse told me the nausea could be because in the mornings the band can be tighter.

Sat- Woke up feeling much better.  Was able to eat this morning and take my medicines.  Still have rash but not near as bad.

As of Weds I have lost total of 8lbs since I started my two week liquid pre-op & surgery Tues 5/29/07.

Keep praying I know I am.

Surgery is Done

May 30, 2007

Well I'm FINALLY on the loser side.
My surgery was yesterday and it went well.  I was an hour late to get into surgery due to surgeries ahead of me.  I was in recovery longer then was told but we don't believe it was anything to do with me I believe it was because they were so busy.

Things are going well.  I was able to come home this morning and I am on a full liquid diet. I was surprisingly full at breakfast and lunch.
My protein shake for snack (in between meals) filled me up.

Keep me in your prayers, I did alot of walking in the hospital. The nurse said I was his best patient because I would walk on my own and do things on my own.  I am very independent.

Well I need to go rest. I'll continue to pray for everyone.
Please continue to pray for me.

Almost Here

May 23, 2007

Well the 29th is almost here.
This "Liquid Diet" is really hard.
I am weak.  This liquid diet has shown me how weak I really am.

I am still doing the diet but I have given in a few times with solids.
I have lost some weight with this liquid.  I am finding it hard to consume the 1200 calories a day.  I'm always under 1200.

I do log my stuff with the "Diet Minder".  This is a really great tool for weightloss documentation.  You can find it at www.amazon.com.

I am still praying and hoping this is the route the Lord wants me to go.
I am so looking forward to the weeks after my surgery.  I pray things will go well and my liver will not be so enlongated.

On the Road Again

May 16, 2007

Well it's been a little while since I have posted.  I have been having some good days and bad days since my disappointing surgery.
As you have read in the previous post I wasn't able to have my RNY surgery due to an enlongated live.  The dr said that my liver is healthy not fatty and nothing is wrong with it except it is a long liver.

I really went through the emotions during the week of recover from the laprascopic surgery.  I had so much anxiety going into the surgery I wasn't sure I could go through it again.

Well the good news is my surgery is back on and I am going to do the lap-band this time.  My doctor talked to me about it and I'm convinced this is the better way for me to go and I believe the Lord is leading me in this direction or he wouldn't  have put the road block up if I was supposed to have the RNY.

So my lap-band is to take place May 29 and I'm on my 2 week liquid diet.  My nurtrionist Melissa has allowed me to have 3 servings a day of fruit.  So my liquid is Slimfast Optima (cheaper then Optifast) four cans a day.  YUCK.  I don't like slimfast.  But I'm determined to get through it because I know it will be worth it in the long run.

So it's "ON THE ROAD AGAIN" for me and I pray things will go the way the Lord wants it to.

Road Block has Arrived

May 04, 2007

As you may know today was my surgery.  I had done alot of praying about my decision to pursue WLS.  I prayed and prayed to the Lord that if it wasn't meant for me to have this done set up a roadblock and I would just let it go.
Well the roadblock came and I think I am going to have to just give up.

I went it and was already for my new life.  They put me under and they ran into complications.  I had a hernia which they repaired but my liver was to large to work with.  They didn't put me on a special diet ahead of time like most of you here.  I thought that was strange but I didn't question it to much.  He took care of some adhesions I had from my previous gall bladder surgery years ago.

When they woke me in recovery they mentioned a hernia to me and said I would be going home shortly.  I thought oh no they messed up so I told them no I had the gastric bypass.  The nurse said no they didn't do and the dr would come in and talk to me.  OH my gosh I have cancer.

They took me to a room and I insisted the send for my husband and my mother because I just knew they were upset with the news and I needed them there when I was hear it.  It took the dr forever to get there so my husband broke the news to me.
Thank the Lord it wasn't cancer.  My live was too large.  He spent time with my family explaining what had happened and explained to them why he thought I would be a better candidate for the Lap-band.

Well when the dr talked to me he didn't go in quite as much detail with me as he did my family but said take the time to heal and see him in about a week and we will go over some options for me and I could pursue this again in about six-weeks.

I'm not sure I can go through all of this again.  I was so psyched and ready for my new life that now I'm not so sure I can go through all this anxiety again.

5 Days Left

Apr 28, 2007

Well it's almost here.
I never thought it would get here but now that it's getting close I'm really getting nervous.  I woke up this morning thinking about God and how I'm blessed with such a good family.

Then I got to thinking I should write letters to my family.
As you can see I'm nervous.  I even held my husband this morning trying to feel his heartbeat while he was sleeping thinking this might be the last time I feel it.

Thanks for everyones prayers and remember I am praying each day for you.

Pre-Op Done

Apr 11, 2007

Well I am now clear to have the surgery.
I went to my pre-op and did my pre-admission.
I spoke to the nurse that did my pre-admission and she gave me some helpful tips for my surgery.  She gave me a plastic unit (not sure what it's called) that I need to breath slow into that will help me breath after my surgery, I have to bring it with me to my surgery.  It will help me so I don't get pnemonia.
I requested a private room due to bad experience with my son's birth and sharing a room.
I then went and talked to the nurse Kim and she explained a few things that will happen during surgery-heprin shots, icu and my day before prep.
Then I spoke with Dr Canaday and he also briefed me up about what will happen.
Then I spoke with the dietician Melissa.  She showed me how to read food labels and gave me a binder with information about what to eat and info about dumping and other facts.
I think I'm starting to get nervous now but I still believe the Lord is in control.  I am still praying about this surgery.  I have about 3 and half weeks till I will be on the flip side.  I'm ready to start the rest of my life.

Pre-Op

Apr 08, 2007

My pre-op is scheduled for Tues April 10, 02.
