There are many bariatric surgeons who claim they do the duodenal switch and don't. They want you to come to their office, only to downplay and LIE about the DS surgery and influence your decision why you should NOT have it. The main reason for this tactic is, the surgeon is not trained and/or even qualify to perform the DS surgical procedure, which is the most complex bariatric surgery that needs a lot of advanced training and to be proctor for a very lengthy amount of time.

Some bariatric surgeons will claim they do the DS and will convince you to having the VSG or say they will perform the DS procedure and without your knowledge or awareness, you wake up with just the VSG. The insurance company did accept assignment for payment for the DS, but the surgeon only know and has skill to perform the VSG. Yes, it has happened and the excuses the surgeons give to the postop as to why they only have the VSG and not the DS are ridiculous. The VSG (vertical sleeve gastrectomy) is only the first part of the DS and not considered a true or complete DS. This practice scheme is known as Bait and Don't Switch. There are dishonest and misinformed bariatric surgeons out there who do such thing on a regular basis. The Bait and Don't Switch is also a scam in which a bariatric surgeon tells the patient, he performs the DS and when you are at the office for consultation, will convince you to have either the RNY, Lapband or VSG, since those are the only 3 s/he has the ability to perform and deter you from having the DS. Another Bait and Don't Switch maneuver is to provide misinformation, fallcies and daunting views regarding the DS for you not have or consider it as an option.

The list above are bariatric surgeons who actually perform the true DS and will give you a DS when you wake up from surgery. They will also be UNBIAS to provide information about other bariatric surgical procedures. It is important to interview the surgeon, to make sure you are comfortable with his overall practice and especially his approach to you. In addition, the names of actual DS surgeons on the list, their location, phone number and if they perform revision (whether RNY to DS, Lapband to DS, or other type of revision to DS) is provided to assist you. Revision to DS is a more complex surgical procedure with only a few elite and skillful DS surgeons qualified to perform.
