Three weeks post-op

Jan 06, 2009

Well guys, it has been three weeks since surgery and I've lost 20 lbs!  I'm so excited!  I still haven't had experienced any problems whatsoever.  I haven't been in to see my doctor yet because his office was closed for the holidays.  I'm going to see him tomorrow.  I'm taking an extra hour off work because my doctor is very talkative and is sure to keep me there for a while.  That's not a bad thing because he doesn't leave until all my questions have been answered.  I have had several people comment on my weight loss.  I still haven't told many people about my surgery.  It's not that I care what others think, but I just don't want to allow anything to distract me from making progress.  It really irritates me that some people are so opposed to weight-loss surgery, considering it an easy way out.  I haven't had any of that negativity directed towards me, but I have heard others talk about it.  Choosing to get the lapband was definitely not an easy decision for me.  I went back and forth with the idea for at least 3 years before I finally made a decision.  I really wanted to lose the weight naturally by exercising and making lifestyle changes.  I've been there and done that and it didn't work.  What I want people to understand is that the lapband is a tool and its only as good as the person using it.  I didn't go into this expecting the weight to magically disappear without having to put in any work.  I've always loved to exercise, but I love it even more now that I can see the results.  I am a counselor, and I've had many people tell me how losing weight is the answer to all their problems.  In reality, if it wasn't their weight, there would be something else contributing to their dissatisfaction.  If happiness was external then we could buy it at Wal-Mart!
