I had gastric bypass surgery on April 15, 2009 and I decided to have the operation because I had gotten up to 308 lbs by of August of 2008. My doctor told me that if I did not lose weight and keep it off I would never see my kids graduate high school and that really woke me up. I already had some insight into this because my sister had the lapband procedure done (which is slightly different and reversable than the bypass) and she lost almost 100 lbs in a little over a year. So, after talking it over with her and my doctor I decided to go forward.

My blood presssure has been very high and I have been on meds for it, along with deprssion, restless leg syndrome, insulin resistance, sleep apnea, and the general aches and pains of being obese. I decided to do this for the following reasons in this order:
1. I want to be around for my kids and I want to coach baseball etc..
2. To be healthy and feel good again both inside and outside.
3. As you know, people are judged on how they look and now that I am two classes shy of my MBA I know I will be competing for some high dollar jobs and I dont want the deciding factor to be "fuck him, he is a fat slob!"
4. I dont want my kids to have to deal with having the "fat Dad" in the neighborhood and have to put up with that shit from peers because of me.
