I haven't had weight issues my whole life; I think they started after I had my third daughter at 26. My weight issues were also complicated from being on anti-psychotic meds which cause weight gain. (I was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder at 18). The atypical anti-psychotic I'm on now is seroquel. It's notorious for weight gain, but it's the only med that makes my bipolar liveable and I've tried many, many meds. It does make me a bit hungry but I can choose to eat low cal nutritious foods or junk. (I was able to lose 80 lbs after wls on this med.) I write about my bipolar because I want people to know that everyday, fully functioning folks have this disease. I manage it the way one would deal with diabetes or any other condition.

At 250 lbs, I was desperate! I found OH and started to consider wls. I did some research and found Dr. Jaime Ricardo Ramos-Kelly. I was originally considering having a roux-en y done but he convinced me to have a vsg done instead. He performed my sleeve in 2007 at Hospital del Carmen in Tijuana MX. I had no complications other than excessive gas and I was able to lose weight quite well and quickly. I had the surgery in Feb. and by Aug. I had already lost 80 lbs. However, I guess I got comfortable and complacent and slowly the weight began to creep back. As of June 2010, I was 217 lbs. I kept trying to lose on my own but it was incredibly difficult. I barely felt restriction anymore. Any way, I decided to go ahead and have my sleeve converted to a full duodenal switch.

My family has been incredibly supportive. I have the most awesome hubby. He found me attractive no matter how big I got. He only wanted me to get healthy and that's the only problem he ever had with my excess weight.
