One Year Annniversary

May 19, 2011

I celebrated my one year post op yesterday! It has been quite a year.  I have lost a lot of weight but have not reached my goal yet of 100 lbs.  I am still working on it.  I seem to have come to a standstill for the last few months of winter.  Now that the weather is breaking i should be a lot more active..

Overall I am very happy and feeling good, looking good, and no more Diabetes! my health is 100% better! yes i still have high blood pressure it seems to be genetic in origin and not weight generated unfortunately. My meds bills are down $200 and thats a great thing im only taking 3 meds for hi blood as opposed to 5 and 3 for diabetes so i am doing great!

9 Weeks Post Op

Jul 25, 2010

hey everyone its been a while since i posted.  I am doing well, feeling good, and losing weight!  This journey is not easy but well worth the effort.  The last few days have been good I have been able to keep down everything I eat.  I also started walking the athletic track a few weeks ago and it is very addictive.  I love it i walk 1-2 miles 4 days a week and it helps a lot!  I have lost 38 pounds so far and have 60 more to go to reach my goal.

2 Weeks Post-Op

Jun 03, 2010

I just had my 2nd follow up since my surgery 2 weeks ago.  I am feeling excellent! I have a lot more energy.  I have been getting my exercise by walking.  Yesterday was a bit hot and i noticed I was getting dry mouth so its important to walk around with a water bottle or protein drink.  It is easy to dehydrate when its hot.  I am trying to get used to my pouch - knowing when it is full.  I get a good pain in my stomach when im full it feels like a brick in the middle of my stomach and i know i cant put anything else in there.  I did try to put a couple extra spoons in and you know what happened...I wound up throwing it up--so usually 3 spoons or forkfulls is enough....getting used to being full on such a small amount of food is difficult....but this is our life now deal with it!

Nothing taste as good as how skinny feels!!! just keep telling yourself this and when someone tries to tease you about food you tell them this..

3 Days Post OP

May 21, 2010

Just want to send a shout out and many thanks to Dr. Jean-Baptist who did my surgery on this past wednesday.  I am feeling pretty good.  I am learning how to drink again trying to get  more and more water in every day.  Yesterday was my best so far I managed to eat 3/4 of a sugar-free jello; 2 sips of broth; and maybe 3 oz. of peppermint tea. So its getting a little better going down.  My pain is minimal at this point.  I really dont need the percosettes, tylenol is working at this point.

Overall my whole hospital experience was pretty good except for all the waiting.....got there at 11:00 am which they tell u to come 2 hours before your surgery time which was 1:00 pm.  I didnt get into the surgery holding area until 3:00 pm.  I think my surgery started around 5 i really dont know i was drugged but when i woke up in recovery my husband told me it was 9:25 pm.  wow! The Dr. had told him everything went well without any complications.

Dr. Jean-Baptist is an excellent surgeon, he comes highly recommended, and is admired and respected by many of his colleagues and doctors in the tri-state area.

Thank you  Dr. Jean-Baptist - you get the job done well! and my process was very quick from my first consultation in February to surgery in May.

May 15, 2010

It has been several months since i posted and now I am ready.  Next Wednesday is my day for surgery.  Right now I am trying to get my house in order and also take it easy.  I have been under a lot of stress and the blood pressure has been high.  Yes I am a bit nervous but also anxious to get it done.

I invite you all to comment and help me thru these last few days.  I managed to lose a few pounds 4 but not many in the last few weeks.  I will try to post more often.

My process is underway

Feb 24, 2010

I met with Dr. JB on Tuesday and I was so nervous.  After meeting with him and asking and answering all the questions we had i feel a lot more comfortable now.  At first i was leaning toward the Lapband but now i realize that Gastric would be better for me.  Of course i have anxieties about it, it will be lifechanging.  I am so looking forward to not having to take meds anymore for Diabetes, and High Blood Pressure, and high cholesterol eventually.   He said it will probably take 3 months for me to get approval but that is fine it will give me time to get ready.  I met yesterday with another dr. on the team Dr. Patel who will be giving me an Endoscopy in a week to check out my insides.  I am also on weight management with Dr. Patel until my surgery so i can try to get some off.  I would like to know from some of you what you recommend i start eating now to get ready for my life in the future any suggestions???
