2 month post-op update

Apr 06, 2007

OK, so it's 2 months today since the ole gizzard-slittin..... As I've posted here, I decided not weigh myself more than once a month. So this morning, I stepped on the scale and I am right at 220 lbs. Which means that I've lost 50lbs in 8 weeks. I had estimated by the way my clothes were fitting that I had lost between 50-60 lbs.... so I was not that far off.

Here's the deal though.... I think I really could've maximized this thing a bit more. The first 4 weeks, I lost 40 lbs. Now I'll admit that is a great rate of WL. But that really slowed down for the second month with only an additional 10lbs lost. Hmmmmm.... there has to be a way to maximize this thang..... Here are my thoughts:

1) I guess I have to weigh myself more often. I'll go to a weigh-in every 2 weeks. That will allow me to keep check on how my efforts are resulting in the rate at which the flab falls off

2) I have to excercise more. Period. I need to get that heartrate up and the sweat pumpin. Because of my crushing work schedule, I've only been doing these power walks 3-4 times a week. In reality, I should be working out 5-6 times a week with more heavy cardio and some weight training too

3) I need to use protein supps more. A special shout out to Kaylyn whoose turning me on to the 42 gram shot of protein :-)  I think if I use these as meal substitutes, I won't eat as much fat and carbs. It's not like I'm eating poorly. It's just that even with chicken and fish and stuff like that, there are carbs and fat. If I can use this mega-shot of pure protein in lieu of a typical meal, I think I can maximize the thang

4) Need to drink more water. I've been pretty good about getting the 2 liters in each day... but thinking back pre-op, I used to drink way more water. I need to up that amount and keep all this "stuff" I'm shedding flushed out really good.

Whew! Well, I guess I need to look at this positievly - I Have lost 50lbs... I just want more results! hahahahaha

Comming soon......... more pix, I promise......

SO much for the symmetry in my posts...... I WILL try to post more....

The eating has become easier. I can deal with most anything related to seafood or fowl.... as long as I eat really slow.... If I eat too fast.... boom! here come the foamies....

I was in NYC last week and had a great time! Went on some BIG street hikes... My pedometer read 8.5 miles on one walk up into Central park, round Jackie O reservoir and back to the theatre district. I also had a round trip from MidTown to SoHo and back - 7.75 miles... yeeeee hawww Now THAT is some urban excercise fo sho!!

Gotz to get on that kick of excercise back here at home tho.... work just suckes the hours outta my day...... oh well... maybe I'll just quit my work, buy a sailboat and dissapear to the So Pacific.... anyone wanna go??!!

30 Days(+) post-op

Mar 19, 2007

OK, OK, OK... I know... I have totally not kept up with my blog.... I have been ultra busy with work and... a 'lil R+R..... shhhhhhhh...... don't tell my Dr.... Naw, he would approve... jus a lil fun in the sun.

Things are good. My nutrition has been good as well. I've had a couple inccidents with slight vommiting(more like those foamy episodes)... I think its usually if I don't chew very well. I can tolerate most things now and I'm choosing protein over other foods.

At 30-days, I had lost 40+ lbs which feels awsome. I know that I've lost more since then, but I've decided to only weigh-in once a month. I don't want to become a slave to the scale.

I need to up my excercise regimine. Some weight training would definately help me retain some lean muscle for sho!!

OK... so I figured I had this thing all wired. My Dr allowed me very soft foods like eggs and cottage cheese and yogurt when I was 2 weeks post-op. So a few days ago I made a really fluffed-out 2 egg omlette with fat free cheese.... no worries. I ate about half of it and felt fine.... coool.

Well, I had to out of town on business for 2-3 days this week and had some "issues". I ordered 2 scrambled eggs and they came a bit dry and over done. I ate those and felt like I was all blocked up. I had the foamy-almost-vomit thingy goin on that I have read about a few times here. Yuck! I also tried some cheese off the top of a pizza slice one afternoon when there was nothing else to eat. That also was a "stopper".... very uncomfortable.... besides the fact that I was in the midlle of a work situation..... lousy timing.

Breakfast next day was good though. I had poached eggs and cottage cheese, ate just until I could feel some restriction and stopped. No worries. I guess I just gotta take this really slow and make sure I have some alternatives and water handy - always.....

I just had my first post-op check up with my Dr. He said I'm looking healthy, doing everything right and that I just need to keep on what I'm doing. So far, Im down almost 20lbs!! Wow, that feels great! Almost 20% of what I need to lose in total. I know, I know, this rate of weight loss won't last for long... but for now, I'LL TAKE IT!!!! yee hawww!

One week post-op

Feb 12, 2007

All is good! Although its 3am... yawn... its all good. I still have some pain in my abdomin and some gas issues that I won't delv into too much here.... but generally I feel alright.

It was raining all weekend so I didn't get out to walk. But this morning, first thing, I put on the ole Nike's and pushed my butt up-n-down the beach for 1.8 miles. I didn't realize that I was pushing the envelope a bit until I got back to my apartment and sat down - a lil dizzy thats all.

The liquid diet thing is getting old alreay and I don't think I have ever looked forward to some eggs as I do right now! hahahahaaha... one more week to go for that Phase!

Whew... the thing is finally over... not the hard part, I know, but I am here, on this side of the fence. The procedure went well. However, afterwards I could not pee, which meant that they had to give me a catheter (ouch) and a extra day in the hospital. When they let me out, I went to get my subscription(s) filled and they didn't have the pain killer my Dr ordered(it would be in the next day). I figured I could handle it - but, dang! By the next morning I was all balled-up with pain....

Everythings good now, I got my drugs, got my DVD's a bunch of protein supps and nice rainy weather to convince me to chill out a bit. Actually, I wish I could go out for a couple of mini walks over to the beach, so I hope it does stop raining at some point. For now, I'm up and down inside my apartment, shufflin around.... I did my taxes last night - so I can't be that bad, right?

I can tell that this liquid diet phase is going to bore me to no end. I think later I will go to GNC and the supermarket to see if I can find any soup-type alternantives to chicken broth... yee hawww, the fast paced nature of my lifestyle amazes me! Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh!!!

I'm off for the big sha-bang.....

Feb 06, 2007

Well, I'm about to leave for the hospital. I've managed to calm my nerves a bit. I really do want that magic cocktail from the anesthetiologist though..... I know I'm doing the right thing... I just feel WEIRD.... hahahahaha

All I can say is that I hope my surgeon was not out with the boys till 4am this morning.... geezzzz... if they catch airlines pilots still in the bottle, what are the chances?? Jus kiddin... Dr C is all in charge of that stuff...

Here is where it all begins(or ends??)

WOW! What a site. My Dr's office reccomended this site and there is great stuff to check out here. Specifically, I think the people here are what make this thing tick. I'm really impressed with the postings I have seen - some REALLY inspirational people and their stories. I will try to keep updated on my progress and try to add more photos.

I have my series of Dr's consultation(s) scheduled for 12/11/06. I'm hoping for an RNY procedure around 02/07. Hooooo Yahhhhhh!
