First Fill Today & other stuff...

Aug 03, 2007

As I'm sure you've already read on the forum I've had my first fill today. It was not as awful as I anticipated just uncomfortable & ok the pokey part hurt but it was tolerable. Rochelle the surgical coordinator for Dr.Nunn came in with me and held my had (she 's such a sweetie).

I also found out I got the new AP band which is cool. I now have 6 cc in a 10cc balloon and had 4 cc in from surgery-That was a surprise but hey it's working and I'm comfortable-thought feel tight right now.

I still get anxious at times when I think of things like erosion & slippage but I can't let myself think like that, I could have a stroke or heart attack and die if I stay obese also. I guess a big part of this journey for me is also learning to put things truly in perspective, learn to live TODAY & to trust -in myself, my bands ability to help me and that things will be okay.

I cannot control everything and the world, just myself. It is really something to learn to be ultra aware of everything you eat & how you eat especially fast vs. slow eating and chewing thoroughly,  I am really re-learning how to eat.

I'm so thankful I had such a good surgeon and encourage anyone thinking about this to really thoroughly check out their surgeon and be comfortable with their staff you will see them often so you have to have a good trusting relationship.

So far, so good! Everyday I get closer to being the woman I remember being a long time ago (ok just a little older & wiser though).

Almost a month & feeling good!

Jul 24, 2007

Hi Everyone!
Though I would post a brief update! I've had my lapband almost a month and am feeling good. Every day I feel better and better and I am looking forward to my 6 week postop visit with Dr.Nunn on August 2nd.

The last time I weighed myself about 4 days ago I was down 20 lb.s-Amazing I have not lost that amount of weight in many many years. It feels so good to not feel constant hunger and be satisfied with small portions. I feel like i will finally be able to get my life & my health back.

I hope this post finds everyone well and a big thank you to everyone for all the moral support during my surgery and now my journey, I appreciate you all so much

Home, Banded & Hiatal Hernia repaired!

Jul 01, 2007

So I got home the day after surgery 6/28, had buyers remorse for a few days, most definately. I am starting to feel on the mend now though my diaphram area still feels weird & heartburn a little.

My surgeon uses the OnQ pain pump which is basically intra dermal marcaine delivered under the skin, my pump tubing is placed at my port site and helps tremendously with pain though I am still using the pain medication for general soreness everywhere else. I am needing it less often and waiting longer in between doses now. When the OnQ pump is done/out of medication the ball that holds it deflates then either you or your nurse can gently pull the tubing out.

I plan on taknig my time healing from this, I unfortunately had my appendix out 3 weeks before my lapband surgery. Luckily I was still able to have the band installed. I also got a unplanned for hiatal hernia repair during my LapBand surgery, my surgeon said it was very large, so I am lucky he got that fixed for me while he was in there.

All in all it is getting a little better every day. I am tired and a little weak but am walking as much as I can and sipping water & my protein drink...I hope it continues to improve daily, I am anxious to get feeling better.

Hi Everyone 5-16-2007

Tomrrow is my consultation with Dr.Nunn in Detroit. I'm nervous and trying to get my list of questions together! Last night I attended a WLS seminar at St.Mary Mercy in Livonia with Dr.Zeni.

It was interesting, though think I probably already researched a lot of the info myself prior to going. Still I am glad I went :0)

I am torn between the VSG& the RNY. I have decided against the lap band at this point as the fills can be expensive and I may or may not have the same insurance in the future, and do not want to have trouble paying for fills. I really want something more permanent also.

Got up and weighed myself this am after really applying myself the past few weeks and now am 260. Crap, that is so damn depressing. I had thoughts this week, well maybe I can do this without WLS really apply myself to a strict program and here I gain weight-Ugh!

Bring on the surgery, I am tired of feeling like crap.

Take care everyone,
-Sara
