my name is joe duffield and i live in lansing michigan i have been over weight most of my life for the last five years i have been working with my family doctor on weight loss surgery back in the spring of 2004 my doctor and i started the paper work and everything else we need to do to get the ins company to say yes so i can have the surgery then on 12-31-04 i got a letter from the ins company telling me i can have the surgery i was so happy when i got that letter but as things got started for me meeting my surgeon telling me how he was going to do the surgery he was planing on doing the rny open that scared me to death i did not like the idea of being cut open but i had to have the surgery if i wanted to live a better life so as the surgery date got close i had a date to go and have my pre surgery test done i wont lie to you that push me over the edge i was more scared then ever on the day of my pre surgery test i was the bigest pain in the ass i could be i mean i was rude to every one i could be at the hospital but i got my pre surgery test done then three days before surgery was to happen my family doctor called and told me that my surgery was called off by my surgeon do to the fact that he felt i was not ready for it he was right i was not ready so we waited a few months and they we set a new date for surgery but as that date got closer i started to fell scared again so this time i called it off and started thinking what can i do to get ready for this surgery then i met a nice young lady on line who had this surgery done at detroit henery ford hospital she said go see my surgeon you may like him better then the one you have now i said sure what do i have to lose so i set up a appt to see him i went and saw him and felt better around him then i felt with my last surgeon so i made up my mind to go with this new surgeon he told me he could do my surgery lap but did say he may have to open me up if he dont like the way things are coming out i was ok with that i was told by many people he is the best surgeon to do your weight loss surgery so i went to there weight loss class to learn how things are done there then i had a date for my pre surgery test things did not go as well as i hope a week later my surgeron office called to tell me that the surgeon was going to drop me if i dont go and get help for my temper they told me get the help you need for your temper and keep the weight off you have lost and join a gym we ll i have done all of that after 6 months geting the help i need for my temper the doctor i am seeing says iam ready to go and have the surgery now he gave me the report to give to the surgeon well i have sent the report to the surgeon now iam waiting to her back from him as to what the next step for me in to geting a new surgery date well as i sit and wait iam geting scared again about having the surgery i know i need the surgery if i want to live a long healthy life i hate been this big my weight right now is 426 i want to have normal life do things like thin people do take long walks not get tired so fast but i would say the most thing i am scared of is loseing my job for taking off time for the surgery 7 month ago i got a job doing at what iam good at up till 7month ago i had not work in almost 2 years iam so happy to be working again i love my job i love geting up and going to work and helping the people that i do so this my story i hope i can get over my fear of the surgery so i can go on with my life iam hoping to make some friends on this site in the hope it will help me get over my fears of surgery thanks all for reading my story joe duffield from lansing michigan
