What Gall!

Jul 02, 2010

So on Tuesday, I bade farewell to my gallbladder.

I put off the surgery as long as possible because I didn't think I was having any symptoms so why rush, you know? My last surgery nine months ago was no easy matter so to say I was leery was an understatement.

Then about six weeks ago, my back started spasming between my shoulder blades, my neck was in agony and that was wreaking havoc on my hips and knees. So color me surprised when my PCP said those could be symptoms of a gallbladder attack. How happy was I that I'd acquiesced to my surgeon's request to schedule the procedure at the end of June? Very, let me tell you.

I knew from cardio kickboxing certification that being fit would mean a faster recovery so I took every opportunity to kick up my workouts to fiendish levels. There were days when I'd wonder if I'd lost my mind, but just kept going.  It paid off.

My outpatient procedure went smoothly and I was recovered and lucid 30 minutes after surgery. My doctor was so pleased with my recovery that I'll be able to resume, slowly at first, my workout schedule next Wednesday. Two whole weeks sooner than he'd originally told me.

Other than some local pain at one of the incisions, I feel fantastic. I think I really like this being healthy and feeling this great.
