I got my call today! Insurance approved first try....I am scheduled for surgery on July 6, 2011.

Well I had my appt with the psyc again and things went much better this time around.  Probably because things are overall better in my life. I did get a new job since the last appt, sleep much better at night, got off of my depression medication and have rejoined Weight Watchers so I have been trying harder to watch what I eat and I have also cleared the clothing off of the tredmill so that I could use it again, and I actually have been!

So I have had my meeting again with the medical director, Dr. Gitkind, he is really nice and supportive. He wants me to go through with the process as I was trying last year. He states that if there is ever any reason that I may quit again to give him a call. So back into the process I go with my next meeting scheduled with Behavioral Intake on February 2. We will see how it goes this time.

Well it has been a while since I last logged in, needless to say I never went through with seeing the therapist. I just dont want to talk to someone about childhood issues that are in the past. So I never had a follow up with the program in October, now it is November a whole year later. I just went to my yearly physical and my PCP wants me to try and go through with the progam again, they recieved a letter from Dr Gitkind at Umass dated 9.30.10 stating that I have not made any further appts. So basically after calling Umass I have to start from the beginning again and go to orientation next month and meet with Dr Gitkind again...we shall see where it goes this time.

Well today was the appt with the psychologist and things didn't go exactly as I had planned, the psychologist wants me to see a therapist and deal with emotional issues from my childhood that may be helping to keep me fat and then come back to see her later on in October before I can move forward with my program.  So I have hit my wall for now, hopefully things will get back on track since I really have barely even started, but I guess if she doesn't thing I am prepared for the long haul at this point that its best to not move forward because I am looking for long-term results once I do get this thing done.

This was my first appointment they called it the medical intake appointment everything went well I guess, I have a history of Anemia which they want to make sure is cleared up and stable before surgery because of the risks of becoming anemic post surgery, and I also get frequent bloody noses so the doctor wants me to see a ENT doc and get it taken care of.  Otherwise things seem to have gone well my BMI was 43.2 Height 5'7" Weight 276. My next appointments are not for a while so I will be more on top of this posting when things happen.

Well today I attended the Orientation Meeting which is one of the required steps through the UMASS program, it was very informative and after attending, I am very sure that I want to proceed with this surgery. Keep your fingers crossed all goes well. I got a call from the office at UMASS, I need to fill out a questionaire that they are going to send, I need to get a referral for a different doctor, Dr. Gitkin the Medical Director and I need to have some lab work done(a fasting blood sugar and a lipid panel)  through my primary MD before the appointment that they booked for me on July 24. It seems like such a long way away to wait from May 8.

Well I finally decided after contemplating for 3 years about wls that this is something I want to persue. So I asked my primary MD what he thought about it and he said to go for it if that was what I wanted to do he thinks the program and Dr. Kelly at UMASS are a pretty great program. So I asked for a referral.
