Preop weight official

Apr 21, 2010

When I started this journey my highest weight was 267. Since I've started my liquid diet I'm officially down to 249. I went to weigh in at the doctors about an hour ago and all is good. He said I needed to be down at least 15lbs and I have gone a little beyond this requirement

This is good news for me, but right now I'm very very hungry!!!!!
See yall on the otherside 4/27/10.

Pre-Op testing

Apr 20, 2010

I went for my pre-op testing & admissions today.  They took some blood and I was given a pregnacy test.  I was given some special soap to shower with the night before and a new clear liquid diet only to follow.   They also gave me some instructions on where to go, what time to be there, and what to bring to the hospital.  They explained the stockings that will be put on my legs to prevent blood clots and how to tell the nurses about my pain levels, etc.

I think I'm all set.  I said a very long prayer  after my testing was over and I went home.  Tuesday, here I come!

Getting prepared

Apr 11, 2010

I went with my sister shopping today.  I picked up some items for after the surgery.  I purchased my mulit's, iron, calcium and B12.  I purchased a water bottle the measures your liquid intake.  I ordered my unjury as well.  I feel more prepared now.  I already have plenty of chicken & beef broth low sodium, protein powder, skilm milk, and sugar free pops.  I'm ready!

I did go in a few clothing stores with my sister.  I tried on a few items just for fun and was shocked that my usual 22wp pants and capri's were too big.  I tried on some 20wp and they fit just right.  I did not buy anything, but wow! I must have lost more weight than I thought and I haven't officially started my two week liquid diet yet.  This starts on Tuesday.  I feel more motivated now to start the liquid diet.

What is wrong with me? Scared? Excited? Both?

Apr 07, 2010

Wow, I was just reading a few blogs from other OH friends who just had their surgery.  Pain, Pain, Pain, Pain, and more Pain! This is the one thing they are all saying.  This makes me scared, scared, scared, scared, and more scared However; I'm going to pray harder than I ever have before.  I know I will get through this, just don't know exactly what to expect.

I don't know what's wrong with me.  I've wanted this surgery for so long and now it's finally going to happen and I'm turning chicken.  I'm not going to back out!!  Did anyone else feel this way? Or am I turning into a wimp

Oh well, whatever it is I'm going through will pass
Only 20 more days then it's my turn

Trial run of the liquid diet

Mar 22, 2010

I decided to do a trial run of my liquid diet to see if I could do it.  I have 36 days until surgery.  So far I've been on the diet for almost two weeks and I have lost a total of 12lbs.  My surgeon said I had to loose 15lbs and I'm ahead of the game.  I hope to loose some more and maintain it by my surgery date.  This has really surprised me because I didn't think I would last on only liquid, but God is good!

Support Group Meeting: Skin Removal

Mar 08, 2010

I attended my second support group meeting last night and it was great.  I think after my surgery I will be attending them more often.  Last night we had a special guest speaker, Dr. White,  from Wilmington Plastic Surgery.  He came and talked about the different surgery options for skin removal after bariatric surgery and all of the payment options.  The average skin removal runs anywhere from $6500 and up in our area.  Dr. White also had one of his patients that had skin removal after RNY come in a do a brief testimonial.  It was a very interesting meeting.  I learned alot, but I don't think I will go with skin removal (at least I don't think I will need to yet).  I think if I do a lot of toning when I exercise I will be alright.  I will keep my fingers crossed.  For those of you that have any questions about the pain after skin removal, we were told that there is a pain pump used now that attaches to your belt and you have injections going right into your stomach muscles and it keeps that area numb for at least 4 days.  I thought this was a neat idea, but still not for me LOL.

Instructions

Feb 26, 2010

I received my surgery information.  My preadmissions testing is April 20th @ 2:00pm.  The Surgery is April 27 @ 8:00am.  My post-op appointment is May 4th @ 2:20pm.  My instructions include a liquid diet 2 weeks prior to surgery to shrink the liver.  I have to stop my birthcontrol one month prior to surgery and start it back one month after surgery.  No ibuprofen products 7 days prior to surgery, but I can take Tylenol.  Nothing to eat or drink after midnight before the surgery, including water. These instructions aren't difficult at all.  I can do this.  I don't understand the birthcontrol thing, but I will ask if I'm allowed to use something over the counter?  There are a list of drugs that must be dicontinued if applicable, but I don't take anything on the list so I'm good with that.
