In Sept. 2006, I was diagnosed with Portal Hypeertension w/ Esopogeal Varicies and Liver disease.  They were talking
liver transplant in about 1-2 years. And if that were not enough the varicose veins (Varicies) were in the lower part of my esopogus and they were about a 3, (4 being the largest), I could hemmorage at any time, I more than likely would not survive a bleed. This came as a shock as this mainly happens to people who are heavy drinkers, Alcoholics. I have never drank in my entire 46 years, never smoked or taken illegal drugs. My doctor had never seen  portal hypertension or varicies...I was his first. I was sent to UA Hospital in Birmingham Ala. to a liver specialist and after test and so on, was told there was nothing he could do for me that my life span had been extremely shortened and he wished me "Luck."
My docors recommended that I have gastic bypass surgery even though it was extremely risky for me as I could hemmorage out during surgery or, because this effects my splean which causes me to keep a low platlet count, and have chronic anemia I could catch an infection and not be able to fight it off.  Long story short, the whole thing behind having surgery is that the weight loss (quick) would hopefully slow the liver diease or if possible even reverse it. I had surgery on Dec, 10, 2007 came through with out any complication's and continue to do well. I must give all credit to the many prayer's that were said on my behalf. So, this is my story. I am doing well, I will remain to have the Portal Hypertension and all it intales but, I remain confident that my liver will respond to the weight loss, that I will live a long, healthy, happy life.  I look forward to the new me.
